Question: or is it much better to fall asleep naturally?

Why so?

It is always better to fall asleep naturally, than use an induced sleep, drinking or medication. The body react better to a natural slee. You will also find that drink induced sleep has the opposite effect when you don't drink to go to sleep. Find the cause of your sleeplessness rather than trying to find a cure.

Yep 2 bottles - fast asleep.

No, it gives me a sore head.

Also goes well with the meal you are having AS well!

It may help in the short term, but this will decrease and drinking can cause worsening sleep problems. Better to go the natural way.

Lol, I don't think it helps you sleep better at all. I love red wine and it makes me fall asleep but more in a drunken unconsciousness than a restful dreamy slumber!

what they didnt tell you is that you have to have at least 3 bottles

It tastes rather pleasant, is good for our health and may help us live longer.

But, if that isn't enough to convince you, scientists have come up with yet another excuse to enjoy a glass or two of red wine.

Research shows that drinking red wine may help us get to sleep more easily.

Grape skins - which are removed when making white wine - are bursting with melatonin, the hormone that keeps our body clocks in check and tells us when it is time to go to bed.

Wines particularly rich in the compound include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chianti.

The researchers, from the University of Milan, said their findings could explain why so many of us reach for a bottle of red wine to help us wind down after a long day.

Melatonin, which is produced by in our brains by the pea-like pineal gland, is also good for our health.

The hormone, which is also linked to libido and aging is a powerful anti-oxidant, mopping up harmful molecules called free radicals which are linked to cancer.

The researchers measured the amount of melatonin in the skins of eight varieties of grape grown in an Italian vineyard.

The level varied greatly, with the most melatonin found in Nebbiolo grapes, which are used to make Barolo and Barbaresco wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes and Sangiovese - the main ingredient of Chianti - were also rich in the compound.

Some of the reds, however, contained little melatonin, with the Cabernet Franc grape, which is usually blended with other varieties when making wine, bottom of the crop.

These grapes contained around 20 times less melatonin than the top-scoring Nebbiolo.

However, all the grapes bar the Cabernet Franc contained more melatonin than is usually found in our blood, the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture reports.

The scientists said that it is likely the levels are high enough to have an effect on our bodies.

Researcher Dr Marcello Iriti (CORR) said the compound could help keep our circadian rhythms, or body clock, in check.

He told Chemistry & Industry magazine: 'The melatonin content in wine could help regulate the circadian rhythm such as the melatonin produced by the pineal gland in mammals.'

However, others are more sceptical, pointing out that while alcohol might make us drowsy, our quality of sleep may be poorer after drinking.

They claim that wine contains other ingredients that help us relax - and that the compound found by the Italians may not even be melatonin.

Other recent research has suggested that drinking red wine could lead to a longer life.

Italian geneticists showed that a compound called resveratrol, which is found in grape skins, can increase the life-span of fish.

The study is the first to show that resveratrol can prolong the life of vertebrates.

The compound, which is also found in mulberries and peanuts, also delayed the mental and physical decline associated with old age.

Resveratrol also has anti-cancer properties and can protect against the damaging effects of a stroke.

Red wine can cut the risk of heart problems, lung cancer and Alzheimer's disease and may stave off gum disease.

Some believes there's something in the red wine that makes people sleep better. It's however studied a lot on alcohol and sleeping problems and all studies I've seen show that alcohol will make it more difficult to sleep over time.

no! hot choccy!! wil put ya 2 sleep less calorises too :) lolxx
