My doc put me on Bupropion SR 5 days ago. To quit smoking and for depression.?!

Question: He started me for 3 days taking one pill. I had the same symtoms as below. He now has me taking two 150 mil pills daily. I am having severe anxiety, crying for no reason, headaches, loss of wanting to eat. Severe mood swings. Since taking the higher dose I feel like I am going crazy!!!! Will this get better with time. I have only been on it five days and I feel so weird like this is the drug from HELL! Please comment! Thanks in Advance! :)

Bupropion SR is a generic drug for the popular antidepressant Wellbutrin. Well, first I do not know what you mean when you say you are going crazy. Bupropion is also used to help people stop smoking, and goes by the name Zyban. If you are trying to stop smoking, the symptoms may be that of nicotine withdrawal, along with the other symptoms you are displaying. In any case, you should notify your physician immediately. I have taken Bupropion before, and it initially made me feel sort of strange, but not for long, and not to the degree you seem to be displaying symptoms. Remember that all drugs affect people differently. It would be wise to contact your Doc right away. Also make sure you let him//her know of any other meds you are taking, whether they are prescription or over the counter. You should not have to feel this way, and I am sure your physician would want to know this information ASAP. Good luck, and you will feel better when a drug is found that complements your body.

well obviously it isn't the pill for you, call your doctor and tell him for pete's sake.

No, call him at once and get him to change the meds.

Please call your doctor.

You need a different medication.

I was on the same medication. Although it did help me to cut down on my smoking, it also made me anxious and jumpy. It never got any better. Switch medications.

Those are all depression symptoms. I assume you're sharing this information with your doctor. There was a thought that some antidepressants might exacerbate or trigger a manic episode in people who are bipolar, so keep an eye out for racing thoughts, lack of sleep, and similar manic episode symptoms.

Good luck,
