Is it true that pathological guilt is sometimes a symptom of severe depression.?!
Question: I've heard that when a person is severely depressed they sometimes can be made to feel so guilty that it prevents them from living their lives and makes them much more suseptible to emotional abuse.

It is very possible, for me, I'm not sure if the depression is causing guilt, or the guilt is causing the depression. Guilt for me, almost validates my depression, because when I try to analyze why I'm depressed, it comes back to feeling guilty.
From personal experience I would agree with that. I was made to feel that way after my mother died and I became so depressed I did not want to go on. All down to my so called family who were covering their OWN guilt for not helping me more with an impossible situation. (Cut them out of my life and have recovered, well, almost).
Either that or the person is extreme Catholic.
