New mental health epidemic sweeping the USA?!

Question: They call it dependance on therapy syndrome. Don't Americans ever think that problems are a normal part of everyones life and we just have to deal with them?

I live in Ireland and I have to say the impression of USA over here is that u have a serious mental health problem over there. Every teenager seems to think they are bi-polar, depressed, ADD, ADHD, Asberger syndrome. Cutting and self harm seem to be in fashion over there. Like if u listen to certain music then u have to cut yourself. U wouldn't find it anywhere else in the world. Only in America!! as they say. And maybe in UK where they wanna be Americans haha. Everyone seems to have a therapist in USA and anti depression tablets are taken by every second person.

funny, the world didnt acknowledge mental illness the way they do, until the Americans started shoving analysts and pyscologists at people ... in the late 80's early 90's

i agree with you , we dwell on stuff, it destroys us, deal with it ....i should know ive been through the mill and back several times

Yup! I agree with you! I have bipolar I disorder and I really do have it. I've been hospitalized twice and once in the ICU for a suicide attempt. But, apart from that then I have LIFE problems that are not a mental illness - like let downs and arguments and financial problems that make me ANGRY or SAD. I have tried without medication but the mental illness is there and causes issues like hearing voices etc.

People need to realize that mental illness and life problems are different. I certainly have. I get annoyed when people think they have a mental illness because they are having life problems - it gives less legitimacy to people who actually do have something wrong with the brain. I think many don't want to admit the problem is them, and blame it on something out of their control - like an illness - when they are the ones with the problem.

Hahah glad to see some people in America are still humans.
People should definitely take problems as a part of life.
Just look at those who take amphetamines, clonazepam,zolpidem,alprazolam,lorazepam... which in my point of view are just b/s medicine, and yeah I'm a biochem student working in a pharmacy.
I just feel so naive when I see people using them when they clearly don't need them.
Open your eyes and see that pain IS life, percocet IS NOT.

Well i have to ask are you making this assumption from all the depressed and suicidal questions on this site. And if you are there are millions of people across the United States that have not posted on this site. Not all of those people are depressed or suicidal. Partially I have to agree because some of these questions about medicine should be consulted with a doctor not online people.

Dependance on therapy syndrome...

Ahh. You must mean the situation many find themselves in where they don't have any CLOSE friends to share their concerns with.

Yes, sometimes we need to pay someone to listen so we don't have fear the story being spread.

We move around so much in this modern world that it can be difficult to develop close friendships where we TRUST the other person enough to open up to them.

crazy isn't it

yes i beleive that the basic sentiment of you question is true,at least for the mainly white rich ones.the por just get on with it and use what we call self.
wood allen have a great quote when asked about was tharapy helping him his answer was yes i know why i want to commit suicide.
