Question: He is an intelligent fellow who doesn't suffer from any visible paranoia or dementia, yet he has no job, no girlfriend, and no real life. What is his problem?

Some people prefer to be left alone. There may have been a tragedy in his life that he has not healed from. He may need to be alone to sort out feelings. He may just find that people are more of a pain in the rear than helpful. If someone wants to be left alone people should respect that. Some people don't like chocolate but that doesn'r mean they should be singled out and persecuted for it. Same goes for various religions.

Live and let live. Peace on earth.

did you ever knock on his door and try chatting with him? maybe he needs friendly help and doesn't know how to ask for it. there must be something bothering him deep inside him and must come out somehow. why not trying to help him?

Some people just prefer to be alone. I understand. I know it is different and from the norm.
