Maybe you need to see a psychologist, counselor or therapist.

Psychiatrists usually don't talk to you at length; they tend to just ask you about your symptoms and if the medication is working. Most of my sessions with a psychiatrist only last about 15 minutes at a time (pretty much like any other medical doctor).

Many people go to a psychiatrist for medication and a therapist for counseling, talk therapy or whatever you want to call it.

psychiatrists are MDs that did a residency in psych, so they can prescribe meds.
there are also physician assistants in psych who may be able to prescribe, depending on state laws.
psychologists are usually PhDs in psych, but usually cannot prescribe.
there are also usually couselors available.
if you already have the meds, you could probably talk to any of them. kind of depends on what your insurance will cover/your financial situation.

I would first check into your insurance to see what they cover. Usually they cover a certain number of visits with a network therapist, counselor or psychiatrist. They can usually provide you with your coverage options and a list of network (covered) providers in your area.

If you don't have insurance or are not interested in going through your insurance for some reason, you can try looking for counselors in your area. You may also want to ask friends or family if they have any references. I always like to know about a doctor before I go see them and I would feel the same way about a counselor or therapist. You want to be comfortable enough with someone to be able to open up and be honest with them.

Good luck!

A psychologist with a minimum of a Master's degree.

I usually find licensed social workers if I'm stressed out. They tend to be cheaper, easier to find and I've always had really focused and successful therapy with them.

You may need a psychologist or a counselor. It's always better to have therapy as well as anti-depressants. Make some phone calls or check on the web. I wish you good mental health, as we all have terrible things we are/have gone thru & it sure helps to have someone to talk to. I also find comfort in my friends, but never I overwhelm them with my problems, but I try to enjoy being with them.

See a psychiatrist, not a pcp.

A counselor (such as a school guidance counselor) or a licensed therapist. A therapist will mostly talk and listen. If they are a holistic therapist (you can ask them), they might recommend yoga, changes to diet, vitamins, etc. If they are not holistic, they will focus more on helping you understand yourself and your stress so that you can find ways to deal with it.

Yes, I would say that you probably should start seeing a therapist now. There are social workers, licensed clinical psychologists, family therapists, counselors, general mental health therapists who can't be called psychologists because they just have an M.A., and many more. Many names for people who essentially do the same thing. Some work privately and others work in clinics or hospitals. I personally prefer licensed clinical psychologists for depression, but that is because there are good ones provided by my school. A counselor with only a masters degree can be as good though. It really depends on the personality of the therapist and how well you get along. Someone who seems the most qualified on paper might not be able to help you. Some therapists may be better because they have more openings. Call some therapists and see what you think of them. They should let you speak to them before you are their client. Make sure they tell you what kind of therapy they offer.
