How should i ask my parents to get me tested for ADD (ADHD)?!

Question: i am 17 years old and in high school. I never really have gotten the good grades in school and always had trouble concentrating on things. i haven't been tested before.how should i ask my parents to get me tested for ADD? I was talking to a friend who has it and i have the same symptoms as he does when he does not take his medication. I am pretty sure that i might have it. and i have researched about it online and have pretty much all the symptoms but i am not sure what my parents might think of me differently if i ask them to get me tested. And i am wondering where i might get tested for it and what the proccess might be like??????

just ask them, having ADD is nothing to be embarrased or ashamed of, there are millions of people that suffer from ADD. Getting properly diagnosed and medicated, if you do have it, might allow you to concentrate better leading to better grades.

yeah yeah yeah.
my friend asked to get tested.
its easy
they said no but...

If you do get tested for it, you most likely will get prescribed Adderol. Which really helps me concentrate (:

Forget it....
Its all a bunch of crap......
Doctors get people hooked on drugs like "Ritalin" and this junk can screw you up and prevent you from getting certain jobs in the future.
Big Deal, you are a little slow or grades are not the best, don't ruin your life and get on drugs....if you want this crap I'm sure you can find some flunky doctor to put you on it.
ADD and ADHD is very difficult to prove. Don't fall into their trap. If you need a little brain stimulus, drink some regular coffee.

you don't have ADD or ADHD, I think that is the stupidest thing ever. Teachers and parents assume their kids have this made up disorder and it's just dumb. Okay you don't get good grades and you have trouble concentrating, have you ever thought it might the you are being tought in school? I say this cause my brother was said to have this and yeah he didn't have good grades and it was hard for him to concentrate. He was bad at math, English, pretty much everything, except for art. That's what he liked to do, and he is very good at it, he does auto detail art, every kind of art thing he can do. You just have to find what you are good at, instead of asking your parents to have you tested for ADD or ADHD ask them to find some sort of school that teaches kids in different ways cause not all kids learn the same way. and that's what teachers, parents and docters fail to realize.

Start by asking them to help you with something which is very important to you. Then show them your research, and tell them about what you have observed with your friend.

They probably don't have any idea on how to be officially tested, but they might be able to find out from your family doctor.

PS. My first thought about how you should ask them was "hanging upside down from ceiling fan.".

You can go to the counseling department at your high school and speak with a counselor you're comfortable with. They can call a meeting with your parents and be there with you as sort of a neutral person. If you're scared to ask them yourself I would suggest that. I work in the counseling department at a high school and this stuff happens all the time.

If you start getting riled up or can't focus, drink a coke or something with caffeine in it and it will balance you out.
