What are some alternatives to self injury?!

Question: I'm a cutter, and I want to stop. Are there ways other than being put on meds and talking to a shrink that could help me?

(Don't respond if you're going to be a smart ***...)

i know what your going through. im not a cutter but i hurt my self alot, it makes me feel better. im not spossed to, neither are you. i dont want to stop but i do know how to.

start off small. begin by only doing it like once a week then continue to slow down. keep doing that till you dont need to anymore.

beat the sh!t out of a door or pillow or something you cant hurt.

scream

write everything down that you feel

repress your feelings

cry!!

talk to a friend. that wont force you to talk to someone else

I used to do that. What I needed was something to do when I felt like I needed to do it. I became a distance runner. As sick as it sounds, the pain of running replaced that pain. It took my mind off of what was disturbing me. I have been distance running for about 5 years and haven't been cutting. I am also a healthier person. It was hard to stop and it doesn't stop all at once. You will have urges every now and then, but after that it requires self control. Good luck.

Sounds like you should seek help. but you could maybe try putting a rubberband around your wrist and snapping it when you have anxiety.

its going to take a lot of will power and finding something that can distract u. i have a very long list of things that i can email to u cuz its too long to post on here. my email is ilovedrums13@yahoo.com and u can talk to me on yahoo messenger. my screen name is ilovedrums13

good luck!

I'm a cutter too, trying to quit. I have a long list of like 335 alternatives so I can't really type it up here, but if you want me to send it to you, you can email me at sasabrim@yahoo.com
=] good luck with your recovery.
stay strong xx

i used to cut. i stopped because my mom found out. and ive done it times after she found out. i dont do it any more becuase i cant stand to see the scars. but when i get depressed i eat. A LOT! try a big bowl of vanilla icecream with cookie dough. makes me feel better all the time

i tried ice cubes crushing them in your hands was ok my counsellor her idea she also suggested wearing a rubber band around my wrist and pinging it-helps a bit,for me smashing plates or any crockery on a floor hard enough is great, ive stopped now ,i stopped as i lived in such a hot climate i was sick of the scars showing and having to cover up in long sleeves,i did it in different places but then when i met my boyfriend he was always aware of it,seeing a counsellor has really helped me,please try if you can, there not shrinks! thats a pyschistrist -i see one also there ok,ive only cut once in about 15 months!
take care good luck.there are some website help forums you could look at

You should see your doctor, and take up a hobby. If you begin to feel the need to cut, use the "other" side of you brain. Get up, move around, go for a jog, call someone to let them know that you are feeling that way. Become an artist, and make beauty with pain by painting or writing. If you want to do something all it takes is the want to change and the desire to follow through. Good luck and I hope that you find an appropriate outlet for your self inflection. Let me know.

Seeking help is probably the best answer. And if your to shy or scared to go to s psychiatrist go to God in prayer.

when i was recovering from cutting, i became a cross country runner...or long distance running works great also. good luck <3

the way I quit may sound funny but really worked for me. Put red dye into water and make ice cubes, then when u get the urge to cut get an ice cube and run your hand under warm (not boiling!!!) water to melt the ice!!! When u see the red running down the drain it really does relieve u. Also an elastic band on your wrist is good and when u get stressed or whatever sling it hard against ur wrist, the short shocking pain changes the subject in your head really fast and u forget what u were stressing about. It is so well worth it to try and stop this now while u can. U dont want to be still doing it when ur older and the scars on your arms always make u feel so self conscious all the time. U will b able to wear short sleeve again wahooooooooooo Good Luck
