Answers: Everyone says I need Coping Skills. What are they? For real!

Coping skills...so hard to define. But what they mean is you need to learn how to react to things, people and events that happen in your life in a positive manner. Say something negative happens to you as a child and you don't tell anyone about it. This negative memory stays with you and in the future when negative things happen to you...you may react by keeping them secret. Not a good coping mechanism. If you learn that by showing anger to someone you love that they leave you...you may always internalize your anger...instead of letting it out as a healthy reaction and emotion. Most often anger is justified and it is okay to express it, just not in a negative manner...and it is not good to let your anger rule your life and emotions. Better to acknowledge it...express it...and then let it go. These are a few of the coping skills that people may be telling you that you need.

Hmmm-hard to define. I would say it means the ability to make decisions on situations so that you have a positive outcome. It also means being able to view things realistically. It means that you are able to act on your decisions once you have made them. It means you get information before deciding or acting, so you don't make any dumb mistakes.

They are what you reach for like tools, when you feel anxiety or panic or depression or temptation trying to rip away your self control. So, meditate, sit relaxed, think of the most wonderful place you would wish to be, slow your breathing, put your feet flat on the floor hands on your knees, breath in slowly and exhale to a slow count of five, keep your eyes closed and focus your eyes down through your chin, all the while picture yourself in the safest place with all your favorite comforts a place where no one but you can enter there is a hand print on the door and only your hand will fit and open it, you are safe here, sit, breath relax. Those are the tools use them and you will calm down and be able to get back on track! Good luck!
