First off...of course don't hesitate to talk to someone..doctor, counselor etc...venting is very helpful..and if you need meds or supplements to help...see what can be done.

That being said - You're allowed to be moody, depressed or any of the above...so stop feeling bad about that. What I suggest is that from where ever you stand now..(mood) try to reach for the next point of relief..moving up the scale to slowly feeling good. I have a 'bag of tricks' I keep around - when I feel lousy or something is not going my way...whether a big deal or a little deal. As for bag of tricks I mean a 'list' of things that make me feel good...no matter what. They may not work immediately to end my depression or fear or frustration... but they do help me feel just a little better..more like 'relief' even for a while. That's all you have to do.

So what could that list be? I have about a dozen DVD's that are all 'feel good' movies...in fact I just watched "last holiday" with queen latifah..(LOVE that movie)
So...
Movie
Good book
snack I love
baking something and giving it away
walk outside (nature is a 'natural' absorber of negativity...don't underestimate it)
music, favorite songs (walking on sunshine, katrina & the waves)
petting my cat
wandering in the dollar store
wandering in a bookstore
going to a fun coffee shop and treating myself to a flavored coffee
getting a manicure
do your own nails with a new nail polish
looking for a place to volunteer...(kids and old folks are always in need) contact your local United Way or look up online for your city
A good book-"Why Your Life Sucks" by alan cohen...fun and helpful too (not that your life sucks!!)

Do you see what I mean? Everyone's list will be different..but you have to start somewhere...don't look to leap immediately into absolute joy...but if you can start stepping towards it and look instead to where you want to be, instead of where you don't...you are on your way! The fact that you are asking for help is a good thing! :o)
Good luck

See a therapist. They will tell your doctor if they think you need medication.

Taking time off is good. Spend some time on yourself. Relax.

i get like this sometimes, what i do is go on google and type in positive think/positive thinking quotes, sounds cheesy but they really do lift ur mood and puts things into perspective, its all in ur head how u want to feel

have a read and see what u think, and read them often when i was going through this stage everyday for about 2weeks straight at work i would go on the internet and read all these quotes and how positive thinking can have such an impact on ur life, and after a while they start to sink in and u do start to feel better. give it ago

keep smiling

I could help you babe, it's not a pick up.

I feel like this right now. You should go out with friends see if that will make you feel better. Pamper yourself. Write your thoughts down. Go and see a doctor. Take long walks. Take up a new hobbie. Try and remember the things that made you happy in the past.
You will get through it.

you need to seek professional help...it may not necessarily be depression..it could be severe anxiety or both or even something else...but it sounds like to need to have an evaluation done, it will help put your mind at ease and hopefully assist you in feeling better...on the holistic side, meditation, eating or drinking certain food helps, exercise, even walking...gets those feel good endorphins going and even if it is momentary it's better than nothing..
good luck

Firstly i think you should change your GP, being signed off fo a week will not help someone suffering from depression, depression is a long term illness, it is not just a case of being a little fed up, and those that have never suffered from depression will not understand how you feel now. You must find a friend who you can talk to and someone who can help you to leave the house and meet people, maybe just shopping but don't become reclusive as this will lead to other mental health problems. You are NOT being moody and you won't just 'snap out of it, depression needs treatment and depression needs friends, find friends who will understand and help you through this, and don't accept a week off work as treatment. Take care and good luck. I will be looking out for you on here, Chin up.

If I were you I'd book yourself an aromatherapy massage and tell your aromatherapy therapist about your depression and she will use oils to lift your mood.
I know this works because I've done it myself.
It also does you good to spoil yourself a bit. But keep talking to your friends and family too that helps. Don't shut yourself away.
I also found helping other people with problems that were bigger than mine help get things in perspective for me. So may be a little bit of temporary voluntary work may help.
Hope your feeling better soon. Just remember to keep smiling as this helps too, even if you don't feel like it at the time!

A depression have symptoms like you say, especially to be tired, to autoaccusation, do not go out. Please, visit a doctor because many of them are a reaction against something extern; in the end, it pass and let's hope will be forgotten. But there's one intern, caused by problems of communication of brain amines between nervous cells, like if good sensations can not move. That need observation and an antidepressive while it pass. Many persons have only one crisis along his life, but others really suffer during too much time. You have felt what's that, despite only stay a little time. It's possible someone of your family, dear persons have spoken with you, and you understand, but can't do that: normal, how can you go to the cinema or to take a walk if the idea of going out can terrify you.
Well, I'm a mayor depressed and I know what I say. Only a treatment with an antidepressive capsule when you need. It's better than suffer.
And that's something don't affect your mental health.
FEW LATER: Depression an paranoia don't go together.

Depression is just a stae of mind. It can be overcome with repeated practice. just do not sit idol.
do some work. reading/writing/listening to music etc. Go for outing with your family or freinds.Once the bout starts just tell yourself that it is not for me. It has come and it will go.Take the help of the doctor also.
Remember, a depression patient has terrific potential. Sometimes you can be more active than others.Just have faith in yourself, faith in God and faith in your people.

Hello there :)

First of all I would advise you to take a visit to your GP. He'll give you a questionnaire to fill in to determine how depressed you are and if you therefore need medication. If the depression doesn't lessen after medication, then he/she will probably refer you to a psychiatrist/therapist.
I think it's really important that you get to the heart of whatever is bothering you: whether it be a chemical imbalance or something more deep-rooted.
I'm 20 years old and have been depressed for as long as I can remember. I finally "cracked" last year and went to see my doctor. I'm now on citalopram and seeing a psychiatrist to be treated for Body Dismorphic Disorder and Social Phobia- both of which I had no idea I had. I hope this proves how essential it is for you to get this checked out. Of course, my intention isn't to scare you in any way. It may well be that you simply have a hormonal imbalance which can be easily corrected.
Nevertheless, if it's getting to the point where you're afraid to leave the house, you need to nip it in the bud before it develops into a full-blown phobia.

I hope i've helped in some way.
And I hope you get the help you need to improve.
Take care,
Charlotte
