Why is it nowadays everyone has something wrong with them?!

Question: Hear me out on this. When I was in High School (20 years ago)there was no such thing as ADD or ADHD. You were either a good student or a slacker. Also nowadays it seems everyone is diagnosed as bipolar. I'm not saying that bipolar doesn't exist, but isn't it possible that some peoples problems are that they are just morons, and not that they have a disorder. I have a friend of mine who's wife cheated on him,and her doctor told her that she did it because she was bipolar! I knew her in High School, and I can tell you that she was the biggest tramp in our school. So why do we make excuses for everything nowadays and blame a disorder? I know at least 10 people that have been told by doctors they have some kind of mental disorder. Isn't it possible that if you drink everyday you're an alcoholic, and not someone with a mental disorder? Do you agree that everyone just blames a disorder in this day and age or do you think that more people nowadys have disorders?

I agree quite a bit but... mental health is a BIG business and business is booming... they like any other industry, merely seek to propagate their own existence.
The only difference is that they are tuning the lot of us into perscription drug addicts.

Easier to blame a disorder than to properly correct the problem. "Give them meds they will behave better" Plus makes money for Dr. and pharmacies, and manufactures

Because "way back when" they didn't talk about problems or mental issues. It was all hush hush. Today it is becoming more socially acceptable.

Just look at your avatar, you answer your self loool, you have something wrong with you.

When did they not? The only difference between then and now is all those wonderful meds that PharmaCorps make so much money on. Oh, and P-sychologists are now allowed to write prescriptions. Used to be only a Psychiatrist could do that.

I agree that it is far far easier to blame your "disorder" than to accept responsibility for your actions.

I agree completely.
I think society as a whole (especially the western culture) has gotten to a point where we'd rather place blame than face up to the facts.
When i was in school I would always daydream or drift off away from my Math courses, my english classes, and my health course. I was told I could have ADD. But in reality? I just didn't like school. I didn't like being confined to a desk and forced to learn something I didn't want to. Now I'm in college and a straight-A student. I love it, and the doctors don't think i have ADD.
Which brings up another thing. Medical professions seem to push off anything they can sell. "oh..uh... yes! You have Bi-polar syndrome. Take these pills and pay me monthly!" Because the culture is so health-conscious and becoming a drug culture they take it blindly and walk around telling people 'I have trouble focusing at work, I get bored easily at my job.. so i have ADHD and they gave me pills to focus." others hear this and think the same and go to the doctor and are prescribed pills. The drug companies are raking in the cash. it's why there are 12 different companies trying to sell you male enlargement pills every night. It's pathetic really.
personally i think only about 12% or so of people out there truly have ADD/ADHD. The rest are just stuck in jobs they don't want to be in and place blame on something they wouldn't be able to control instead of taking charge of their own lives.

The world's becoming lazy, and it's much easier to point the finger at something you wouldn't be able to control than to face up and take charge.
Why go through the trouble to fix your problems when you can simply down a pill and make it all go away?

well i have schizophrenia as a result of being abused by my parents. i guess 20 years ago they would of just labeled me a f*ck up.
granted some people are just idiots. like the rich c*nt kids that go around beating people up for fun. they label them anti-social and other things. really they just need a good whipping

IT IS THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES, ARMAGEDDON IS NEAR

We are just the same as we were before, just now someone with a PhD has a label for it. Besides, it has always been easier to blame your actions on someone or something else then to stand up and claim responsibility for your own actions.

Though I will admit there are a lot of new chemicals we humans like to play with now then there was before. None of us know the long term effects either. So those years of "free love", pollution, chemical warfare, experimenting, etc. COULD have caused some kind of chemical reaction we are now living the consequences of. That and not enough love, attention, or the right discipline toward our children and families. In some cases there is TOO much 'love'.

But I'll go with the top part. Seems like you are not 'cool' or 'in' if you don't have some kind of mental disorder now and days.

this is very very true. thats because it's cool to have something wrong with you. didnt you know? </sarcasm

real convo i had....

kid on drugs: man i dont feel normal. im like mellow one minute and crazy the next. im bipolar. the dr told me.
me: maybe its those heavy drugs youre always doing? (crack etc)
kid on drugs: nah, theres something wrong with me
