Coping with bipolar disorder?!

Question: I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder for the past 19 years. I am interested in hearing how you cope with bipolar disorder. I have just been through a relapse after five pretty much symptom free years. I think hearing about your success will help restore some of my hope for the future.

I wish you the best of luck, my husbands girlfriend has bipolar disorder and its very hard on allot of us. She has episodes and we just don't understand it. She has been put on meds that seem to really help her. But she does not like to take them. But i see such a great person when she takes them somene I could be friends with.

Best of luck to you!

I have bipolar type 2 so I have to take Cymbalta to keep me from going to low, and abilify to keep me from going to high.

i dont know bipolar first hand like you do, but my older brother has bipolar, so i kind of realize how hard it is. i feel for you. my brother has had manic episodes as a result, and ended up in the mental hospital, but it always turns upright again. sadly, i fear that this whole crisis/manic/relapse cycle will go on for the rest of our lives, but you have to remember the good times you have. take your medications, and so something you enjoy that relaxes you, whether it be swimming, art, or writing. and also make sure you have someone you can talk to. make sure you keep your appointments with your phsycologist. i feel for you. good luck:)

I have a friend who has ALS and is bi-polar. He gets so down sometimes and sleeps all day I wish I could help him but he tells me just leave him alone and it will eventually pass. He takes all sorts of meds but the one that seems to help him the most is marijuana. It helps with the pain from ALS and when he is feeling down and depressed getting high makes him feel better I guess because it does help his mood. It's not for everybody but it works for him.

Are you bipolar I or bipolar II. I think your question is giving me hope for the future. How did you go five years without a relapse. Are you on meds? My son was diagnosed with bipolar in September of last year. He stopped his meds at the end of November. Its been three months, and I have been asking questions as to when I can expect another episode. Could you please tell me if you took meds for those five years. Im kinda new to this and im trying to find out what to expect next. Im a nervous wreck. Im sorry I couldnt be of any help but I wish you all the luck in the world.
