I have a phobia of...?!

Question: marble floors. I don't know why but whenever I am bare feet in my marble tiled bathroom it feels like slithering snakes and slime under me. I get goose bumps when I touch marble and I also get teary eyes. I hate the feeling!! Can anybody tell me what the phobia of marble floors is called? And how can I stop it?! I don't accept answers like "then just re-tile your bathroom".

I'm that way about walking barefoot on synthetic fibers. It's one thing when it's living room carpet, but the very idea of stepping out of a tub onto those cheap, nasty bathmats makes me CRINGE! If I'm at someone's house where they have one, I lay a regular bath towel down on top of it so I don't have to touch it.

I seriously doubt there's a formal name for your phobia, since there's probably not enough people who have it to justify giving it a name.

As for what to do about it- put an area rug down that you find appealing and pleasing to touch as a quick fix. If you want a longer-term solution, the only way is to keep exposing yourself to it until you become desensitized to it. Unpleasant, but effective. You could do both- put an area rug down and every day stray a bit from it.

I have always been phobic about needles; even crying like a child when I was in my 20's. In my mid-30's I suffered a back injury and had to have surgery twice. Between the diagnostic tests (MRI's, CT's, etc) and the surgeries themselves, that was a LOT of shots. Now I find that although I still dislike shots, I no longer have that deep-seated panic reaction to the thought of them. Repeated exposure to them- especially during a horrible, frightening time when I didn't know if I would ever be able to walk again so a shot was the LEAST of my troubles- really put things into perspective for me.

Put a rug down

I don't know the name of that phobia, but I HATE a wet marble floor. Not too bad with a dry one but after a shower or bath if the floor is wet and you step on it I don't like that.

Sorry I cant help, but i know how it feels to have an irrational fear, I used to be exactly like you on sand and still feel very uncomfortable at the beach but i seemed to grow out of it. Maybe try going to you doctor, they my be able to sujest somthing like hypnotsis or somehting.
