It's my magic pill and I love it. :)

In all seriousness, I've been on it for a couple years and I'm the most stable I've been since I got sick. I'm on a couple other meds, too, but it wasn't until we added the Abilify to the mix that I fully leveled out. Sometimes it's a matter of finding the right cocktail. Since I stabilized I was able to lower one of my other meds that had the side effect of dulling my mental functioning, so I can think better than I have in about four years.

Abilify is getting to be very popular i know, some people say it works, others dont like it. It is similar to risperdal it is an anti-psychotic, I imagine the only way to see if it works is to try it. good luck, hope it helps.

Not a good answer, but I just wanted to comment that it sounds like something George Bush would suggest we do to our economy. :)

You did not say why it's being prescribed but I took it for a short while and had no adverse side effects. During a particularly bad depression that caused me to attempt suicide I also began hearing voices. It was the first time that had ever happened to me and very scary. It was not the kind of voices I've heard schizophrenica desescribe it was more like a distant radio constantly on. For whatever reason about a month after taking Abilify the voices stopped. I was also able to immediately stop the Abilify after the voices were gone with out having any problems and not having to taper off the drug.

As you know everyone is different and when it works, it works great. My husband was on it for 2 years and it did work great, but he had side affects of not being able to stay asleep. So after 2 years, he went back on risperdal. So far, risperdal and abilify are the latest drugs for mental illness. Right now they are studying something new, but they won't be ready to put it on the market till about 2012. So far it is very promising. it doesn't have a name yet. I do hope the abilify works good for you.

My son just started it so I don't know. His Dr. is having him take it at night & he didn't sleep a wink last night & it was his first night on it. Dr. said if it continues, then she may have him take it in the mornings instead. I did notice a major mood improvement & was able to have a very nice hour long conversation with him (which isn't the norm). His Dr. said it's a miracle drug for some. She said to beware of possible weight gain though.

I've been on it for over a year and it seems to work. I also take Effexor and klonopin. It helps with my OCD and this problem I had with a voice in my head talking about me in the 3rd person. I haven't had any nasty side effects. No weight gain, etc..
