Ditto with everyone else. AA is NOT religious. They believe in a higher power but that power does not have to be God. If you are hiding your drinking, you are an alcoholic. You can only help yourself if you are truly willing to give it up. AA can help you.

A.A. is the only thing that's going to help you and since it's NOT a religious program you have no gripe...just a cop out. It's free, it works and it right in front of you....grab onto it and get sober!

AA is not religious go if you think it will help, but wise up the marriage is not going to work if you drink please think mind over matter

go to your doctor ,n spill the beans tell him exactly what you,ve told every body else,he will refer you to an alcohol councillor,or a referal to alcohol drugs missuse a,d,s,.think to your self why your drinking are y trying to blank things what as happened in the past,it worked for me .sadly not my mate she died 6 months ago she tried so hard .multiple organ failure in the end,y need to talk to someone y can trust, best of luck ,ps if u go to ads n dont want to stop drinking, give it a go its worth it

I'm not religious either, but AA is really helpful. I learned that your higher power could be the group itself, or even just a fellow member. They really are amazing and friendly people.

I'm also extremely shy, so I don't really introduce myself at meetings (don't know if you have that problem). However, just hearing the stories of others and seeing that you are not alone is really helpful.

double dittos on the aa not being based in religion,...

the only requirements for a higher power in aa is that it be loving & greater than you!

God can be an acronym, as in (good orderly direction) or (group of drunks)

you can make a thousand excuses to not reach out for help, we know that kind of behavior is based in fear,...
or you can go to meetings with an open mind (it could save/change your life)

If you drink that much, you need to detox safely. I seizured doing it at home the first time. The next time my drinking progressed, I almost died from toxic levels at one point in my drinking history before I sobered up. You really need to get help, your life is worth saving. Oh, and, you think you are hiding it, you aren't, they know.

AA is spiritual, not religious.
