How many female Australians are currently suffering from bipolar disorder?!
Question: Good question. First, we get it at the same rate as the boys. Our experience with the disorder can be a bit different from them.
Researchers talk about the 'lifetime prevalence' of bipolar as being 1.2% of the population, or 1.2% of women.
They also talk about 'incidence' which is the number of new cases each year. For bipolar generally this is 2.3% of the population and 2.3% of women.
In practical terms you'll find (statistically) one woman with bipolar on every crowded bus. On a crowded train carriage there'd be two. Can you spot them? (Don't try, they look like you or me!)

I think approximately 1% of the population has bipolar disorder, so given that men and women are equally likely to have it, about 0.5% of the Australian female population is theoretically bipolar.
