Is Valium safe?!

Question: Is Valium safe?
My doctor gave me Valium for my panic attacks, I'm having a mild one right now but I'm scared to take the 5mg valiums I have. I need to know from someone that takes Valium 5mg what did it do to you the first time you took it? Please answer?

i carry valium for panic attacks...if you take them once in awhile it is fine....they are not meant to be taken daily for a long period of time....they have been around for a long time...they are fast acting...that is why your dr wants you to take them.....you just calm down...may get a bit sleepy....

5mg is a very mild dose and should cause no problems. Valium is highly addictive so only take it when you really need it.

it's very mild, but it depends on each person. Does a Tylenol PM make you drowsy? if yes then Valium might make you a little drowsy, but it's very mild, I've taken it.

PS; I have a high tolerance to narcotics

Valium is safe, but you must know that it is very sedating. Never drive a car or drink alcohol if you take it. If you're concerned about the dosage, you could break it in half and see how that works.

Valium is very addictive and is only for short term use. A psychological dependence occurs. You will need to find why you are having panic attacks - is it certain situations or a generalised anxiety disorder. I am suprised your DR didn't give you antidepressants as they are brilliant for anxiety disorders - and good for a more long term use.

Take it. You will be glad you did.

I hate to be a spoil sport, but you really should have asked your Doctor these questions when they gave you the script.

I think asking a bunch of strangers their opinion on this forum is really not the best idea you have ever had. Become an informed consumer.

its too late to take it during a panic attack, its only worthwhile if u take it at regular intervals and then it will stop them starting. It builds up in your system so taking it at this stage is pointless. Also taking like that will lead u to getting addicted quicker as u wont feel like u can do normal things without having the valium with u. Try learning to cope with the attack, like distraction, deep breathing, run up and down the stairs a few times or just occupy yourself with something. Valium work so well that its very easy to get addicted and its not easy to come off it if your taking it alot. Good luck,

Valium is safe prescribed by a reputable GP and correct dosages are follewed.

Medication should be the LAST option but.

Have you gone to see a therapist, theres nothing to be embarrased about if you do go.

They can help you control your breathing, this can even help in the middle of a panic attack, much better then being medicated your whole life. Valium can only mask the anxiety, breathing can help you control it.
