How Can I Be More Social?!

Question: I just a new job working as a cashier at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in my new city. Now I've done front end work before, but I was let go because the management didn't think I was spunky enough.

I'm pone to anxiety and panic attacks, but I don't let tem hinder my life. I have trouble making new friends and since I just moved from the west coast (Cali) to the east coast (North Carolina) I'm finding the culture out here is way different.

I want to be more social because I don't want the management to think I'm rude or stuck up when it's really just my shyness and nerves. I'm also fearing losing my job because there's one manager in particular who I know just doesn't like the way I am (she says I make unpleasent facial expressions). It only takes one manager to get you fired.

How can I get over my shyness and be more out-going with the customers as well as the people that I work with?

Hmm, try making yourself seem more inviting, smile a lot and try not to be so stiff when you talk to other people. I used to deal with anxiety attacks all the time in school, I would skip just so I didn't have to do presentations in front of the class. Just don't put everyone around you so high up on that mental pedestal. They are just like you, going around and living their lives. Don't be afraid of judgment by other people, if they don't like you then who cares, as long as you like yourself. Try going out to public places like bars, concerts, coffee shops, book stores, ect. It's a great way to meet people, just be yourself and you'll eventually find people that like you for you.

smile and seem sweet
