25% of those with a mental illness recover completely. The other 75% do not. What I'm talking about is the 75% who do not and can not get cured. To be cured of something means that a doctor can get rid of all mental illness. They can not. So therefor it is not curable. At this time, doctors do not know or understand why 25% of those with mental illness are cured. Until they do, there will be no cure. I get my information form the national alliance of mental illness or NAMI. I didn't make this up.

who are you talking to?

It depends on the mental illness. A person can overcome certain mental illnesses. Many others get to the point that they are stable and know how to live with illness.

dunno

You're right - for some, mental illness is treatable and does not ever come back. This happens often with depression and mild anxiety disorders... very capable of being "cured" so to speak, with no future occurence. However, there are a number of mental illnesses that are debilitating for life, such as schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. Medication and therapy can help get the symptoms under control, but the mental illness is never really "cured" in these cases. It's always there, and if these individuals stop treatment the condition will "come back" full force.

Some "mental illnesses" can be overcome. That's in quotes because those cases usually are life situations and not mental illnesses. Many personality disorders can be overcome if intervention is early. Many emotional problems can be overcome with therapy, but again these are not mental illnesses. Serious mental illnesses can be treated, managed, but not cured. For illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major recurring depression, OCD, serious panic/anxiety, etc... it is you who is spreading false information.

So whats the question here? I think some mental illness can be cured, and others will not be cured, alot of times it can be managed and you can still lead a normal life with mental illness, but I dont know if you can say there is a cure, you didnt even say what mental illness you are talking about...do you think schizophrenia can be cured, as of now...no it cannot be cured it can be managed with meds and therapy and what not, but in my experience a schizophrenic off their meds, are not cured, they are not well, some are even scary off their meds.
