Answers: All of a sudden a lot of close people I know are more depressed... could it be the season or something..?

Let's just say, depression is a chain. Especially within a group. One person gets depressed, and acts that way and is that way for a long time, all the sudden their best friend feels bad for them and becomes sad, and something bad but small happens to them, and they get depressed. Its kind of a cycle, the way others act around us affect how we act. So if i were you, id just be like "hey guys why so down?" and be a good example of a good attitude, even when things are rough. And i bet, your friends will cheer up. And you can start a cycle of having fun.

Most people are diagnosed with depression in January. Much of the time it is seasonal depression. I do agree that depression is on the rise. I think a big chunk of it has to do with our diets.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a known condition that causes depression in certain individuals. A lot of people start to become depressed a few months after the Christmas/New Year festive season. It is a troubled and competitive world we live in and so stress causes us to be believe we aren't matching up to false ideals set for us to acheive in childhood.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is tied to seasons of the year. Most people with SAD are depressed only during the late fall and winter (sometimes called the "winter blues") and not during the spring or summer.

No it is due to our life-style and especially to our nutritional habits.

Most doctors and psychiatrists have a poor understanding as to causes of depression. All they can think of is drugs and drugs. Drugs do not treat the causes of depression, they treat symptoms only.

Lots of people have seasonal depression. I am one of them. It is called Vitamin D deficiency. There is not one person that has the proper amount of Vitamin D in their body during the winter months (when there is lack of sun). Recommend that your friends go tanning for five minutes. It will make a world of difference. That five minutes of sun and peace and quiet is better than anything else in the cold winter time.

Perhaps it is cabin fever. Hopefully this is just a temp condition that will release as Spring is drawing nearer! :-)

Depression can be caused by practically everything. Hey, maybe I'm subconsciously depressed right now. But yes, depression has a cycle. Eventually you get sick and tired of snow in the winter or climate change. The easiest way to avoid it is to focus on all the joy of the coming season, it will get better, depression isn't always a permanent thing.

It's the season, most definetly, and the weather. It snows alot, sometimes it rains, the ground is frozen and slippery, the sky is gray during the day, and when you add wind to the combination it can be a pain in the behind. It might also have something to do with magnetism and other scientific reasons, due to the fact that alot of things that can cause your mood to change either increase or decrease during different seasons and weather. I feel depressed myself, as with my family, when the weather is like this, and the season I feel most depressed in is probably autumn since the sky is gray and there is alot of wind, at least where I live.

To me the biggest problem with people today is that there is way too much pressue on individuals and because many of them think that they are empowered to be something that they are not.. they become confused and depressed because they are clouding their consciousness with to much information. The human brain is a magnificent piece of work, but it can become overloaded with too much information. If you add that to the speed that we live in today.. you can become overwhelmed. if you ask and older person.. they will tell you to slow down and don't take life so seriously and don't take yourself so seriously. People are their own worst enemy. Instead of letting things go, they attempt to solve all the worlds problems. When you take on too much.. the over load occurs and the next thing you know.. you are depressed. I have seen it happen to many times.. people loose track of themselves and loose the ability to relax.. most people who are depressed are tense and tight and when they become too tight, they explode.. what they must be able to do is to vent the frustration and understand that they should just remember to deal with the things they can and let the others go.. when you over load the brain.. it is going to crash.. sadness occurs and causes a chemical malfunction.. thats how chemical depression is diagnosed.. and what is it that they treat you with?.. mood levelers to slow you down and make you relax.. I think the best way to do it is the way it was done in the good old days.. just say screw it and go have a beer..

I believe that people are becoming more depressed because of the dependence upon technology rather than human interaction. Human beings used to have to go to other human beings in order to get things made, fixed, or traded. Nowadays, people can sit in their houses for days without anyone noticing!
