Hypnotherapy for Anorexia?!
Question: Does anyone know if hypnotherapy is ever an option for successfully treating anorexia nervosa? The . . . er . . . person is doing very well in recovery - able to vary times/some routines but still has difficulty with thinking style - ie-"If I do/eat this I must do/not eat this" which I have heard referred to as Confirmed Negativity Disorder?
Any help/links appreciated xxx

"Anorexia nervosa" is a medical / psychological diagnosis - a lable, but with certain legal attachments. Most hypnotherapists will require a referral from the diagnosing physician before working with this person.
There's also likely to be a difference in paradigm as well as method, e.g. what's the benefit of the label, and of the manifestation of the behavior (internal / external). What's the benefit of all these "disorder" labels and medicalizing something that amounts to a way of skillfully and habitually altering subjective perception?
If you get the right hypnotist and a referral, there's a good potential for significant assistance, if not "a cure" - which in the paradigm of many hypnotherapists will be termed "a learning".
If the first hypnotist you visit isn't as helpful as you'd like, try another one - perhaps from a different school - the same way one would try a different physician if they weren't happy with the first results. Don't dismiss hypnosis (any more than you would dismissing medicine entirely) if the first guy isn't a stellar winner...
