It is very common for people to have sleeping problems, and I would guess that your fears are rooted in anxiety, which is also the common cause of sleep disturbances. Panic attacks are also a major sign of stress. Examine your life and see if anything has changed recently that could be putting stress on you; or if something from your past might be creeping up on you. And I personally wouldn't jump to meds, especially if this problem is recent. I would suggest seeing a therapist/counselor/psychologist. Just talking to someone about the stresses in your life (and everyone has stress) may alleviate the majority of the problem, along with discovering the root of it, so that this doesn't come back later in your life. This is a good overview of the aspects of panic attacks:

You can definitely do something about it. Get some help and Good Luck!

Of course get help. It might be as easy as going to your doctor and getting a mild anti-anxiety pill (and a check up, which can be reassuring). Alternatively, go to a therapist and explore why you have these fears. You might try taking up yoga or some form of meditation to help you relax. The fact is you are sleeping and you are waking up, and your body's systems run independently of your fears, so there's no reason to think you're going to die. My grandfather lived his life predicting he was going to die soon. He finally got it right, but he had to wait 80 years! If you can't get over this, therapy would help a lot.

ur gonna die
