Symptoms of Bipolar? And could I have it?!

Question: Ok.. I know this question has probably been done to death. This is me: I can be so happy, I don't know exactly what euphoria feels like or anything like that, but yeah it's like I'm in my own world and I play with my friends, it's kind of really like a child like state, like the way I think and behave and it's like I can't control myself. It's like... bliss, then sometimes I can think constantly about suicide and I hate going out cause I don't want to face the world. And other times I can be completely normal. I also have quite a temper that appears mainly when I'm depressed. At the moment I'm normal..
Also I get highly sexual, like EXTREMELY high, when I'm happy, and have absolutely NO need for sex when I'm depressed and when I'm normal it's like average.
I don't know whether this is a normal "woman" thing or bipolar. Because I recognize my hormones go up and down during the month.

I have very similar symptoms, and do NOT have bi-polar disorder. (Although I thought I did at first, too.)
It's possible that you may have it, and also possible you may not.
I highly suggest seeing a therapist/psychiatrist for this. Bi-polar disorder generally takes longer to diagnose than any other mental health condition because the symptoms vary so much. You'll need to visit a psychiatrist several times in order to get the answer to this question. This is the only way of getting an accurate answer. (unfortunately Yahoo Answers can't help you out with this one...)
Please go see someone! It really helped me out.

It sounds a lot like Bipolar. I recommend taking an online test to give yourself a better idea of if you are and if so to what level are your moods and such...

http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/bipolarq...

It sounds like you are talking about my husband, so I will say bipolar.

no....that's not hormones....

i truly do think it's bipolar disorder.
cause that's how i acted when i was developing it
EXCEPT...it was alot worse....i think you probably have
hypomania...cause you seem like you're in mixed states
a lot of the time.

go to a psychiatrist about this...
if they say it is bipolar...then talk about Lamictal.
that's what i take for my BPD, i've been taking it
since i was diagnosed...for a year now.
i'm on 100mg and it has worked just fine.
the reason why i recommended it [highly] is because
i've had ZERO side effects...it is a known fact that
lamictal does NOT make you gain weight AND it is meant
for a long term use. after 18 months you are re-evaluated just to make sure you need a higher dose or something

but anyways about lamictal dosages...
week 1 and 2=25mg daily
week 3 and 4=50mg daily
week 5=100mg daily.

they give you a sample pack [ no cost...i don't think] for those 5 weeks.....at week 5 it starts working 100%, i guess the reason why they do that is because 100mg of this is too strong...so they start you off on small amounts.

lamictal is also prescribed to most teens...i guess cause it doesn't have any bad interactions and whatnot.....plus i also take adderall for my ADHD and at first i thought i may have some bad effects from taking both, but nope. i'm just peachy.

but aside from all that, definitely go to a psych.
and if he/she suspects it's BPD talk about lamictal
and say you've read that there are hardly any side effects and it doesn't make ya gain weight...and all that good stuff.

also, if you really wanna think it is hormone related
go to your regular doc and get a blood test for hypothyroidism. that sometimes mimics BPD.

good luck!

If you are a teenager hun, then this is all normal! However, you can always go to see a doctor and find out. Bipolar can be hard to diagnose. You should look it up on credible medical websites and don't read into to much. It may or may not be you. Its important not to diagnose yourself but seek a prof oppinion. You know it may be helpful for you to keep a journal of when you go up and when you go down, and show it to your doctor. I think that can help as well for you and the doctor to see any patterns. Hope that helps!

Yeah.

You sound a bit like me. I'm not a woman though, so I can't answer the 2nd part of your question.

The suicide thoughts are absolutely typical.

You should speak to your doctor. I try not to use medication, because there are always side effects. Lots of people do though, and it works great for them.

The hardest and first step you've already done though. You've recognised your symptoms.

There are varying degrees. My mother used to take to her bed for months when she was 'down'. But was absolutely the most delightful company when she was 'up'. Far more exaggerated than me.

Remember, as far as people are concerned, there's no "normal".
