For people who have taken Abilify?!

Question: What were your biggest side effects?

I took my first one last night and today I woke up with the worse nausea ever. I can hardly stand it.

Answers: What were your biggest side effects?

I took my first one last night and today I woke up with the worse nausea ever. I can hardly stand it.

Most ppl don't experience side effects from Abilify (including weight gain). Some will have nausea short-term, others long-term. Some will become activated (more manic symptoms). Some will get internal restlessness (akathisia, not good). It pretty much depends on how your body responds and perhaps the dose. Abilify gave me akathisia so I was only on it a week.

I take all my meds with dinner or breakfast and that avoids nausea. Try taking it with a decent amount of food. If the nausea lessens, give it a few days to see if the problem continues to diminish. If you are still extremely nauseous, call you doctor. The purpose of meds is to improve life, not to trade one disabling problem for another.

Yes, make sure you take it WITH food or at least a glass of WHOLE milk. It is the FAT in the food that helps the pill absorb.
That is what the Dr. told me for my daughter.
She gained a lot of weight, very quickly on this med.

I've never known anyone who gained a lot of weight on Abilify. Maybe the other answer is talking about Risperdal. Anyway, The most common side affects are restlesness and insomnia with Abilifly. My husband took his in the morning, not at night. He then always had breakfast after that and never had any nausea. So try taking it in the morning instead.

You cannot go by just the first pill. That could be a short term symptom. You may not want to take it on an empty stomach either. I have taken it for 4 yrs and have not had any problems. It is suppose to be one of the better meds on the market. I would not give up since you just started taking it.

If you did not get a print out of the medicine side affects, you may want to call your pharmacist. They have more knowledge that most doctors when it comes to how different medication work. But, I am sure he will tell you that you have not taken it long enough if it will work or not. Make sure you eat a cracker or something before you take it and don't give up yet. It may really help you in the long run. Feel Better..:_

I had that too. Also, on average people gain about 60 pounds. I gained 10 in 1 week and switched back to seroquel.
You should be taking it in the morning because you'll probably feel restless at night.
