Should I do something about this? and What could cause this?!

Question: Sometimes I get these weird urges to do things to myself. The most recurrent ones stabbing my head or leg, or just hitting my head. Out of those three things, I only hit my head. I just started getting these urges maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I usually get them when I'm watching TV, when I'm at school, when I get frustrated, and when I'm really bored.

This is something to discuss with a psychiatrist, and not here. You need a professional opinion, and should be talking to a real medical doctor with advanced training in psychiatry who can prescribe appropriate medications if needed, which is what a psychiatrist is. Please get the proper help. This isn't a do-it-yourself project. Please trust me, especially on that last point.

get a life.

no, get an active life!

do some sports.

go see friends.

do some voluntary work with people who have nothing, can do nothing, have no one and feel bad.
this will cheer you up!

get a life my dear.
get a life.

it is over before you know it.

all this 'hurting yourself' sh^t is just to make you feel alive.
well, i can tell you, if you help someone that is sick or ill or sad or misearable or poor or deaf or blind or handicapped or cant walk or is young or dying or scared or homeless, then YOU will feel alive in comparison.

I would see a psychiatrist as soon as possible.

Yes you should.

Talk to someone you trust and see if they can give you guidance or point you to someone who can.

This is not normal but can be dealt with.

You're trying to get rid of your boredom by hurting yourself. It also is an attempt to get attention. You want people to react to you hurting yourself. There are better ways of dealing with all of this. Have courage, take the next step and find yourself something better to do.

i understand this, its not that uncommon but you should tell someone older who can help you find OTHER things to do to help you release those feelings, things that will not harm you.

this is what i do

keep a rubber band on your wrist, when u have an urge pull it as far back as you'd like and let it snap back.

its not perfect but it helps. good luck :)
