Most antidepressants will cause weight gain. I know from my own experience with several types including Zoloft, Effexor, etc. Long term use of any SSRI is associated with weight gain in most people. I think it just causes an increase in appetite. You just need to keep an eye on your food intake and be sure to exercise.

just take the medicine
i think you should care more about being happy
than gaining a little

but no zoloft does not make you gain weight
neither does effexor xr...

Not if taken in the correct prescribed dosage.
It's the enlightened state of mind that makes you want to eat more.
Just go with the happiness and look for other thrills when you feel like eating.
It's more likely to have weighty effects when you wean yourself off.
Just be sensible with your eating and you'll be fine.

It can, although in medicine circles, it's not known for it.

That being said, I know that any psychiatric medicine is capable of making someone eat more or gain weight.

Every person reacts differently to every psychiatric med.

Some experts feel that antidepressants cause weight gain because often people who are depressed don't want to eat and when they get undepressed they start enjoying food!

Or, sometimes people eat too much naturally and when they get undepressed they lose weight!

Anything is possible. If you find it makes you gain weight unnaturally and you're not eating more, then you may want to change medicines if it is not satisfactory. Don't forget: when it comes to pscyc meds, you have to weigh the benefits vs. the side effects. If the side-effects are stronger than the benefits; its' the wrong medicine and try another. You WILL find one that works and doesn't affect you this way. It takes time. I know. Been there, done that.
