What part of psychosis causes brain damage?!

Question: How severe is it?

Answers: How severe is it?

Psychosis doesn't usually cause permanent brain damage if you're talking about intelligence, sight or hearing, body movement, hormones, etc.

It can only affect your ability to think straight sometimes, make decisions, etc. It might affect your long or short term memory...but that is only a pain....won't affect your normal thinking process.

Brain damage? No. Unless you have a stroke, amnesia, or something that requires a neurologist's testing or a brain doctor. No. Psychosis requires therapy and maybe some meds, and you will be as smart as you ever were.

It won't affect your ability to see, hear, move, etc...not in the LONG RUN. For a short period, maybe. But so does getting drunk, huh?

The psychological affect may be somewhat detrimental. But not your ability to be smart or move your body or learn.

Usually brain damage precedes psychosis, but not always. My brother is actually studying schizophrenia in rats. He says that they believe that schizophrenics actually have increased neuron activity since birth. Over time, the increased activity wears down a certain part of the brain. This is why most schizophrenics do not start feelings symptoms until later in life.

Anyway, that's just one example. And it's still all in the experimental stage. A lot of mental health issues are still in uncharted territory - we know very little about their causes and about (fullly) effective ways of treatment.

psychosis is extreme irrational behavior it cant cause brain damage in any direct way. IT may make someone smash their head repeatedly which could do it. Its more likely the psyhosis is the result of brain damage
