Want to see a doctor, parents and boyfriend think situation is funny?!

Question: I have been dealing with what I assume is OCD since I was in elementary school. I have a severe symmetry issue. Things must be in exact order. If I feel a sensation on one side of my body, I must replicate it on the other. If I can't replicate it properly, I must replicate the incorrect sensation on the original side, and so forth, until I feel even. My family finds this hilarious and they often try to tap me repeatedly on one side of my body. I can't even write things without a fear of asymmetry. This distracts me every single day... things aren't symmetrical and I can't take it. It sometimes physically hurts to see something out of order. I would like to see a doctor once and for all... I've been to psychotherapists before, but never spoke about this. My boyfriend says that it's all "BS" and that I don't have OCD. Nobody will support me, and my parents find the situation funny. They actually laugh. What can I do?

Since you are covered under your dad's insurance and you are 18, why don't you make the appointment and find out what amount you have to pay and then go. There are medications which can help for this. It will lessen your anxiety about this issue. Don't give up on it. Lots of people don't understand. Good luck.

awww hunni see a doctor

I think your family and boyfriend need to have an attitude adjustment, in fact, I think they are down right cruel.

I suggest you stop listening to them and do what you think is right, see a counselor to discuss this. Then, take some control over how you are treated by these people. Make it very clear that you won't put up with this disrespectful behavior and when they begin, leave the room. If need be, limit tme with them altogether until they get the message.

I understand what you mean when you have a sensation and youhave to repeat it on the other side of your body. I do that too sometimes, but I don't have the symmetry stuff you have going on with writing and things. Tell your parents that you want to sit down and talk about something serious with them. Explain all what is going on and all how you feel and then ask them to take you to a doctor to get help with this. I dont' know what a doctor can do, but perhaps he would suggest you go to a couselor to help you work through these things. If your parents still won't listen talk to an adult that you trust and that you know would listen, or talk with an aunt or uncle or a grandparent or someone. Or even talk with your school nurse or school counselor. They can help you find what is wrong. Good luck... be brave and next time people laugh at you laugh along with them and act goofy. Soon enough they will quit because they are only doing that to aggrevate you. They like to see you get all worked up. My family likes to aggraveate me until I get worked up and then I get upset and finally my parents understood that I don't like them to try to get me worked up. Good luck with this all.

Just as with anything else, people will always think they r better and know more than other people. they laugh cz they feel good about it. it hurts, i know!
