Are we over diagnosing our kids....Are ADHD and ADD and all the like?!

Question: just the modern term for out of control brat?....thus justifying medication that makes them not act out?....

Answers: just the modern term for out of control brat?....thus justifying medication that makes them not act out?....

yes the shrinks are putting kids on dangerous drugs to make money for themselves. They are shameless opportunists and have no real value as doctors whatsoever.

you will probaly find what your looking for here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention-d...

non-U.S. countries find such diagnosis as ADHD ad ADD appalling, if you are a kid and act like a kid suddenly you have ADD

BINGO

There are exceptions, but they are few and far between. No one wants to discipline their children anymore. Teachers and principals are not allowed to discipline children. Many parents are not spending quality time with their children. Hence, they are growing up wild and without boundaries. Sad.

there is no such thing as AD/HD it is a made up thing so drug companies can make money- better parenting through chemicals

I've thought that for a long time now...we didn't have these conditions when I was young...and they aren't "all of a sudden"...it's society producing them...

Most definately we are as a nation and it is disgusting and dangerous that the psychaiatrists and parents are getting away with it.
A label lets the ignorance or the abuse off the hook doesnt it.????. It also masks the problem so that the classroom is teachable?

as for over-diagnosing it, maybe. But actually Adhd medication is the most researched and most supported of all psychotropic medication out there, it is extremely helpful for those that truely have ADHD..

Yes they are. My middle son is 31 now but when he was 10 on up to age 14 I had a problem with him sitting in class, concentrating on work and was to the point of multi-tasking at school without finishing anything. Of course back then there was no ADHD or ADD. I took him to the Dr. and asked if something was wrong and he advised that he was "Hyperactive". The remedy---well-he was to run around the house until he got tired and before school, he was to run at least one mile. Did you know it worked and he now participates in marathon running. He outgrew it when he reached 18 and finally got control of his hyperactivity. So yes, that is my answer because I know better.

I am an adult with ADHD, and I have a son with it. The problems are not a bratty child, that I can handle with ease. They are children who throw temper tantrums for hours on end, no matter the consequence. The will try to break things, or hurt people in this rage. NO type of punishment will help, as I was beat with a belt repeatedly as a child, and I laughed about it. It is all about not being able to focus, and complete tasks. This turns to anger that at some point gets released. The medicine helps the child focus in school to do their work, and my son grades have improved greatly. I get straight A's in college, due to the help the medicine gives me. I used to be in conversations with people, and looking past them day dreaming. I never knew what they said, and was easily forgetful. Do not judge something until you walk a mile in the shoes!

Haha you're funny lady.

I have ADHD, I'm 17 and have had it for like 9 or 10 years. I'm not an out of control brat. Why do you people without any mental disorder have to be so damn ignorant? I'm not being a brat by saying that, I'm being an honest person because it seems like the only people who EVER have to question this are the ones who are perfect little angels.

Yes, overdiagnosing happens.

But not in my case and not in many peoples cases...I was always a great kid, sure...I used to run out in the street when my mom would tell me to stay only on the front porch....or I'd run into the gate at school and damage nerves in my front tooth...or have a concentration problem and a whole bunch of other things...

But seriously. I barely had my tantrums. I was just really hyper growing up and my brain likes to have specific functions going on overdrive or just stopping....
But I'm not a brat.

I don't get why you just don't research or look at the kids out there who smoke weed and drink till they drop every day or every weekend. Or the 13 year old girls getting pregnant or having an STD or the kids who like to shoot others because one guy likes to dress in girl clothes.

They're not brats? Right?

People with ADD/ADHD have diff functions in their brains that function more than other functions do....plus the motor functions mature a lot earlier than 'normal' brains motor functions do....well, at least in the ADHD mind.
Then some cortex matures 3 years slower...

Uhm....iron and magnesium deficeincy at birth to the rest of their life is another factor of ADD/ADHD.

Serotonin levels are either too high or too low.

People with ADD/ADHD are more prone to having food allergies...milk and wheat are common.....also, allergic reactions cause the ADD/ADHD symptoms too come out a lot faster....

But a diet and multi vitamins won't fix the brain.

You really need to research before offending people like me who suffer from it.

Also...here's the bigggggest proof of ADD/ADHD...well aside frm brain scans and other researches...

Energy drinks and coffee!
A person like YOU will get pretty hyper
After drinking a red bull or a latte or whoever you spell it and then crash hard.

A person like me would get calm as heck.
One can of Monster sure calms my nerves and I don't crash. I act like I would on my adderall.

Large amounts of caffeine act like stimulants to calm down nerves and lessen the symptoms of ADD/ADHD.

Another thing...
People without these disorders get a high off of ritalin or adderall rather than it helping them. And they have a huge chance of getting addicted compared to the ones without it.

So please, research before being rude and hurtful.

Cause I can assure you, my attitude is a lot better than half of people in high school. They'd rather shoot somebody or party it up and steal their parents money then act responsible.
I got straight A's, yes, I struggle real hard to get them....but I know I can do it. Most of the smartest people suffer from mental disorders. Also, people with ADD/ADHD are more likely to be prone to creativity and be pretty intelligent...its just hard to show it in there's ignorant people in the world.

It is possible. I worry that we may be overmedicating them. If we are not, then what is going on here? Something is very wrong with our environment.

True story! ADHD=poor/lazy parenting....I am not even a parent and know that. ALSO the teachers are to blame because they do not know how to handle kids that need 'extra' attention. What is wrong with society? Well when you consider who the masses are following....

Yes.

ADHD is very real like epilepsy and Tourette's but only 2% or less of the USA population likely has ADHD. That's my understanding.
