Feeling like electric shocks.?!

Question: Hi people. I'm on Mirtazapine, and I'm suffering from a feeling similar to electric shocks. I have experienced this before when I stopped taking Escitalopram, but I haven't had any of that medication for months now. I have got an appointment with the Doc on Thursday, in the interim I just wondered if anyone else had experienced these symptoms? Thanks.

At last!! I honestly thought I was the only one suffering from this. You really have described it in the best possible way by saying "siimilar to electric shocks". I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this horrible and peculiar side effect, but I think I know what does it (only found out through chance though). It seems to be something to do with Mirtazapine's anti-histamine properties because, when I was in hospital about a year ago, I was given a relatively high does of Cyclizine and had exactly the same feeling! Everytime somebody came around the corner, or if something moved, I would literally get a "electric buzz" sensation, and each time it happened, I would pray it wouldn't happen again as it was such a nasty feeling. I hate it when people describe it simply as just , "being on edge" or "nervey". You'll probably agree it's much worse than that! Thing is, it only seems to happen with Mirtazapine at 15mg or below. What dose are you taking? I wouldn't mind betting you're on 15mg. At 30mg or higher, it usually diminishes. I really wish I could find out scientifically why this happens, as i'm hoping there's a close relative in the drug-chain to Mirtazapine, that has ALL it's properties, without the Anti-histamine effect, which (I'm pretty sure) causes this. Speak to your GP about it, and even quote what i've said if you like because, I guarantee it's an anti-histamine related effect. Good Luck, and I hope you get better soon. ;-)

kinky.

whats your diagnosis? Never heard of these drugs but then I don't need a therapist or live in the states?

I had this sort of problem when i was a kid but i wasn't taking any medication,my parents never took me to the doctors and over the years it went away....i would be interested to know what causes it though....i have a feeling it's something to do with nerves and the pulses from the brain

I will assume you are taking this for depresssion? Are the feelings you experience in your extremities, head, where? A pins and needle feeling is a side effect. How long have you been on the medication?

yes i had the same 4 1st few months when stared mirtazapine as well gos after a bit but tell your doc
