It really depends on the individual, the severity of the psychosis, and the effectiveness of the medication. It might be for life, it might be for a few months. Some psychosis is pretty much permanent, in other cases it might go into remission quickly or over time.
It does seem to resolve much quicker if it is part of another disorder like Major Depression or Bipolar Disorder, or in Brief Reactive Psychosis where someone goes into psychosis because of a traumatic event.
Treating psychosis is about the patients willingness to recieve help from the dr's. The more receptive u r, the quicker the healing will begin. medication is NOT the only treatment and seeing a counselor of some kind is imperitive if u want to get to the root of the problems. Good Luck!!

Depends on the type. Most patients in psychiatric hospitals stay for a few months to two years. Some psychotics cannot yet be treated with the medication available.
