How do you cheer someone up?!


Question: My husband has recently broken his ankles and he is feeling depressed. How can I make him feel better emotionally?

Instead of trying to cheer him up. Let him be sad, he has every reason to be sad. And by trying to force him outta his funk you may do more damage than good. Maybe he needs to feel alittle down and out to process the feelings that he is having. I think after a decent period of time, you could just be there for him to talk with. Make him his favorite lunch maybe a little snuggling. Sounds like if he broke his two ankles he is feeling very useless and like a burden. Let him see you happy when you are helping him. Let it be known that he isn't a burden that you are happy to help him heal. He is probably feeling like a HUGE burden give him little things to do around the house that will make him feel productive like folding the socks or reading to the kids. Something that will make him feel like he contributed somehow. Make him feel useful...that's the best thing you could do for him

Remind him of how useful he has been in the past. tell him he will get better.. Try not to worry about his condition as if it were permanate.
