Opiate Detox & Anger?!

Question: Up until a year ago I was put on opiates for 5 years the last was high levels of morphine. I went into a detox and I am clean with no interest to use these drugs. throughout my life (I'm 45) I have always been a positive and quite happy person. As soon as I got off the Rx I became extremely angry and cynical. I went to some shrinks that deal in this however the anger emotion was unknown to them. It's a year later and I wake up angry everyday and seem to be quite bitter with NO patience. I am desperately trying to figure out if this is a natural reaction and how long will it last. I try everyday to think positive to get back to the old me. I can't stand being such a miserable *&%$!!! Please let me know if anyone else has had this issue.

I was a heroine and Oxycontin addict for 10 years. I went on the methadone program fro another 1 1/2 years. I don't understand your hostility with me it was just the opposite. I was pretty much emotionless, I couldn't get angry, excited and just walked around like a robot. I studied this on a scientific level and found out that long term drug abuse alters the brains natural ability to release chemicals the alleviated pain, feelings of happiness as well as other emotions. this effect can change over time, your brain functions have been wounded and will take time to heal. Professionals who specialize in brain function of addicts say it can take up to three years or sometimes even longer before endorphins, dopamine and serotonin levels normalize. As far as my situation I started to notice changes after about a year and a half and still feel I needed some more time after 3 years. You just have to be patient. If you practiced the 12 steps it really starts to help when you reach step 12. Helping others can really give you lift. as far as these health professionals you are dealing with, remember that the average doctor requires 17 hours of training for addiction. The real experts are those with long term sobriety in the groups of AA and NA. Hope this helps, just hang in there and the rewards will come by themselves.

Dude, IT might not ever go away.. My step-pops had kinda the same issue. He just started smokin madd Tree, and it curved his anger, he was on methadone for years, and when he got off it he was a douche for like a year untill he started blazin. Hope this help mang Peace

Well on top of using opiates for 5 years, you are 45 and going through perimenopause. This makes your hormones go haywire and can cause you to feel angry and have no patience.
