Ways to prevent or help anxiety?!


Question: I have an oral report due tomorrow in my French class. I always get really nervous as soon as I get to school in the morning and until I perform the report. I'm just glad it's in the morning. But, what can I do before, or even during the report to calm my nerves. Not thinking about it doesn't work, because I just can't stop thinking about it.

You need to understand that everyone is going to have to give an oral report in that class, or at some point or the other. If you keep thinking that everyone is judging, picking apart, or laughing at you, of course you are going to be nervous.
I have anxiety as well but I can honestly say that I don't have issues with talking in front of people. The reason? CONFIDENCE.
Also, if you are nervous put some comic relief in there. Pull on your collar as a joke (letting the steam out). My senior year of high school we had to give book reports and present them to our class. One of the most popular girls in my class went up to give her report and she was shaking so hard, she could barely speak.
You are not alone and people are going to sympathize with you. Just do your best and thats all you can do. Don't dwell on the what if's and just do it. Whats the worst thing that's going to happen? Someone might laugh, but will that really affect the rest of your life? Or you could pretend that everyone else is naked except you, lol.

Ok, this always helps me. Breath deep through your nose for 5 seconds then purse your lips and breath out of your mouth for 5 seconds. Do this for a few minutes. It has been proven that breathing properly can help to sooth feelings of anxiety/stress.
