Do you really think medication is the answer?!

Question: All the psychiatric medications require you to taper off when discontinuing a medication. The withdrawls of some can be harsh.

What if a disaster took place and people were without their medication........do we really need to take this stuff?

I guess some people just don't understand what mental illness is.

I take my medication because if I don't, I won't get out of bed and go to work. If I didn't have them, I never would have finished college, I probably would have killed myself a long time ago.

If I had my choice, I'd rather not take it. I did have to stop taking my medication for a week once because they were going to start me on a different one.

While I was off my medication, my boss sent me an email that made me so angry I smashed my computer keyboard. I was so wound up when I got home, I actually considered going to an emergency room.

When I take my medication I am generally hard working and easy to get along with.

It's easy to say psychiatric medications are a bad thing when you don't have to take them. If you do have do take them, you might have to change your mind about it.

Sure, maybe some people are taking things they don't really need. But I know I need it, and I know people who need it more than I do.

hello, hello,

Drugs are fun!!!

Yes - especially in a disaster situation.

no i agree with you...
most people think that they have a worse case than they actually have.. and take waaay too much meds... for no reason...

it depends on the person...i used to take them it didn't help much and gave me a lot of side effects. i use to take a lot, but i discontinued gradually...its been about 8 months that i stopped and i am BETTER. but i make sure i get a lot of rest and don't stress so that i don't increase my anxiety level.

on the other hand i know people that just can't deal with themselves without the meds and they try to commit suicide...(my friend) so its different for everyone.

Listen to me. Without my meds, I do not recognize my own name. I used to worry all the time about disasters and the ability to get my meds if I needed them. That is why you can re-order them a few (I think up to five days) days before you ever run out. Even in an earthquake or tornado, the Red Cross at the very least should be there to help you. Most cities and counties have some type of plan for disasters. What I personally do, is, say my doctor changes the amount of pills I take per day to less, leaving me with an extra amount of pills. I don't throw them away, I put them into a small pill box and keep them for any emergencies. But I don't keep them for years, because their effectiveness and safety changes after their expiration date. In any case, having those extra pills tucked away has saved me many times when I have forgotten to even call for refills and the pharmacy has closed for a holiday or whatever. YOU MUST TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT THIS!! I could not be without my medicines even though that situation is a scary prospect; I am definitely pro-medicine.

ln my case yes meds are the answer I take an anti-depressant and Xanax for high anxiety they balance me out well. Not to get me high like the first nut said
