What are the best medicines used to treat depression and Bipolar?!

Question: I have severe depression and it is questionable if I am Bipolar. Sometimes I can get hostile., but do not try to hurt anyone or myself. Just very frustrated. I stay in my bed every day and do not want to eat experience difficulty sleeping and I do not want to be around anyone. I used to have a good sense of humor and now nothing seems funny. I used to take life lightly, now everything seems so sad and gloomly.

Even if the doctors do not think that I am Bipolor. They believe I have severe chronic depression. I know you cannot objectively diagnose yourself but I have read so much of all types of depression and I think I could be Bipolar.

Are there any medicines that can be used to treat both problems if there is a doubt. I am taking Prozac and Ambilify. Are those helpful for my situation?

Because you feel pretty awful a lot of the time, you really need to go back to a psychiatrists and have yourself reevaluated. A good doctor can and will figure out just what is wrong and prescribe the proper meds for you so you can get on with your life. My husband who has a mental illness has had to change meds 4 times over 10 years, even though we know what mental illness he has. Sometimes 1 med will work for a while and then it will stop working and you need to try something else. Also, one last thing. Depression is the most misdiagnosed of all mental illnesses. Please don't give up, you can feel a lot better.

JESUS!!! God made our bodies, he can heal 'em too.

Ask your doctor about a drug called "Lamictal".

Take Precious advice.

SSRIs, Tricyclic antidepressants, and MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitors are amongst those more commonly prescribed for depression.

For bipolar disorder, the most common is Lithium [mood stabilizer]. Some bipolar pts are also prescribed SSRIs.

Prozac [which you are taking] is an SSRI.

You are searching in the wrong place for this answer. STICK WITH A PROFESSIOMAL!! Get a second opinion if you must.

Lexapro is pretty good only it takes forever.
if you acutally mean, Abilify that's used to treat Schizophrenia.

wellbutrin, neurotin, depakote

the bad thing about anti depressents is that you often need to keep increasing your doses or you will just become more and more depressed if i had to say pick zoloft, but if ur on it too long, like i said, you'll prolly become dependent on it.
try meditation or yoga. find natral ways to clear your mind and releve negative tention. i'm diagonosed with bipolar II so i know ur prolly thinking "psh meditaion yeah right." but honestly, it's the best thing for your mind and body, take up lessions or read about it. there are also differnt teas and herbal incences you can have that also relive stress and tention.
if i don't help u could try the zoloft but i think meditation is the best way to go.
good luck!
