How can I stop doing this?!

Question: I hit myself on the head on purpose a lot. I do it when I'm mad at myself, frustrated, when I'm bored, and sometimes when I'm watching TV. I usually only do it if I'm alone or at school. I keep getting headaches, and I've been feeling really light headed lately. I want to stop doing this, but I don't know how (duh. that's why I asked this question). It's been getting worse lately. I used to only do it three or four times a week, but, I've hit my head 25 times so far this week (15 today, 9 yesterday), last week it was probably about 20 times.

This may seem weird, but a good idea is when you get the urge to hit yourself, find something like a pillow or stuffed animal or something to hold onto. Hang onto it until the urge goes away.

I'd also recommend seeing a counselor too. The above option doesn't help every time, but it's worked wonders for me because I used to be like that as a kid. The counselor is there to help with the rest of the times.

Good luck!

haha. I've never seen this kind of question before.
But try to think before you do it. And if you truely
can't stop carry some advil with you.

dude u need mental help dont be afraid if u get help u will be better

man you might need some help, and you count how many times you hit yourself in the head?

Are you taking psychoactive drugs? What you are describing is a possible side effect. If so, you should find a qualified psychologist to discuss this matter with.

I do this too, and for the same reasons, oddly enough. I get headaches from it sometimes. I'm not quite sure how to break this behavior, but maybe you can see a therapist or counselor about it. That's what I'm going to try to do at least, but I have other problems other than just hitting myself. Good luck with breaking this habit.

gosh get help.
are you on drugs?
wow.

For 1 full day handcuff your hands behind your back and handcuff one of then handcuffs(that is around your hand) on your belt loop so you dont hit yourself. after one day of that, you will have broken the habit

DON'T HIT YOURSELF

Headaches and Lightheadedness are caused by the loss of brain cells. You see, when you hit your head, your brain cells die. You CANNOT reproduce brain cells, thus you're losing all this memory and stuff.

Don't do it.

I agree with Rick Cressen; you should get something soft to hit your head against when you have the urge to hit your head. Also, to resist the urge, do something else instead of hitting your head , like snapping a rubber band on your wrist, or slapping your arm, or pulling on your shirt, something. It's not a good idea to hit yourself on the head so many times.

If these methods don't work out, go to a counselor, or a doctor, or just any adult (like your parents), and see what advice they have to say.

Yeah, talk to a school counselor about this. Or a teacher you trust.

It sounds like these episodes are getting more and more frequent, and you want to stop before it gets completely out of control and you do some serious damage.
