how about addressing it directly to the source GENTLY.
"john, do you realize that you repeat everything that i say?" wait for response... then YOU REPEAT back EXACTLY what he says. this is NOT a joke. then, ask him why he things he does this? then, again, repeat back exactly what he says. ask him if he feels that you heard him?
if this is a good assistant other than this "quirk" it is worth your time to work this out. after all, any time there is a problem in communication with another person in our lives it gives us the opportunity to work things out with them.
or you can sweep it under the carpet and pretend it's not there.

because this is what people tell those with communication problems to do, it's supposed to be a "listening" device, repeating what the speaker is saying in the form of a Q to show you are listening.
LOLOLOL this advice was actually given in a mall seminar i saw when i went to the city.
You should ask him why he does it, he might not even realize it or he could do it because that's the way that he processes information. My daughter has a processing problem and the way that she was taught to make sure that she knows what's being asked of her is to repeat the information back to make sure that she under stands what is wanted of her.
