Why can't you help someone who won't help themself?!

Question: They are stuck in a rutt. They are so used to being messed up, any other thoughts dissrupt their pattern of life, may it be good or bad. Change is very scary to alot of people.

Because it's their life and you can't FORCE them to change. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Because they lack motivation ... otherwise they would try to help themselves, even in the smallest way. Without motivation, it's really hopeless.

let me give you this analogy ok your friend breaks down in his car you offer to help by giving a push you come to a hill he gets in and stops pushing you are left with all the weight of his problem

You can help them by encouraging them to do it on their own. If they disagree, that's their choice but you tried to help.

well, many times the people we are willing to help the most don't want to exept the help. I really dont understand their reason for not taking help becuase I do so I can't help you there.

Because only they can provide the solution.

If they won't own the solution, it never takes hold.

Because everyone has free will do live their life the way that they want to as long as they aren't a danger to them selves or others. Would you want someone trying to make you change when you didn't want to or feel the need to?? IF you go along with what you think than someone should be able to make you change things that they don't like or agree with in your personality.

because i'm that person

Dead simple. You try to help them & they'll drain every ounce of help out of you, then demand more when you've no longer got anything left to give. Result - 2 people needing help.

If they don't realize there is a problem then why would they think they need help to fix it? They won't fix what they don't awknowledge and the only thing you can do is keep trying to help them see there is in fact a problem.

Your answer lies in the question you are asking. They either are probably thinking there is no problem so there is no solution needed OR the problem is too big for them to know how to approach. The only thing you can really do is try not to be judgmental - everyone is different and looks and feels about things in different ways. What may be the solution for one person may not be applicable to another. This is definitely compounded if the problem is health related..
If you could add some more info then I'll try to proffer more of an opinion, but again it's only going to be MY opinion not an answer :)
