How do you battle depression?!

Question: I am battling with it for years. I was hospitalised in 1995 for 2 years since then I have been on and off antipressents. Most of the time I can cope but I still get bouts of depression. This is a real illness and for me it is a life long condition that I am forever battling with. I know some people are saying to do different things like going for a walk in the fresh air. That is alright for mild depression but when you have it bad enough sometimes you don't know one day from the next and are totally drained. I am trying to acknowledge first that I do have a problem which works on days I have that are not too bad but on bad days I hit rock bottom again so my battle with it will be life long.

I am on Citalopram and it is helping me no end.....

hiking

sunlight, fresh air, exercise

You do just that, battle and, for some, it is a lifetime struggle. I always think that depressed people are some of the bravest people in the world.

Change, if you are depressed change the environment around you, move you bed, paint your walls, listen to different music, get involved in a team sport, and exercise. Changing the circumstances and environment around you will change you attitude and your outlook on life. Also use bright colors, watch funny movies, and try to smile more, you will find that if you smile, even if it is fake you will start to feel happier and better.

If needed get medication, see a therapist, exercise, and eat right. Also getting out of the house and doing fun activities.

support, love and maybe medication + counselling
