How to get help?!

Question: I feel like I have a lot of stress, and I'm generally unhappy and feel like counciling would help. However I am not eligible for health insurance for many months, and my friends and family aren't people who have the ability to help. What should I do?

If you are in the United States, you can usually access mental health treatment by contacting your county's office for mental health treatment. They have different names so you'd need to check in the phone book. You may be eligible for medical assistance based on income, so you could look into that as well, the place for that where I work and live is the County Assistance Office, but they may call it something else where you live. There are usually funds and places where you can seek treatment that would provide treatement and charge you based on income. You could utilize those services until you have your own health insurance. I'm a therapist and I also work for a managed care company for mental health services. If you need any other suggestions or help, feel free to email me.

If you are in the U.K you could try calling the Samaritans, they don't counsel but they do listen and that can be a great help. The best thing is it's free. I'm sure most countries have a similar service. Good luck, stay safe.

See if you can find a support group that meets in your community. I know in our community newspaper there are always different support group listed. I also find that taking a good long walk whenever possible helps with stress. Good Luck!

Where I live there is therapist that will see you and you can pay on a sliding scale of how much you make. Maybe they have something like that in your area.
