Yes, depression is definatly a true illness. Think about it, do you think that anyone would CHOSE to cry constantly, sleep too much or too little, eat cosntnatly or not at all, isolate, hate themselves, not shower for days etc...no one would actually just chose to live this way. Depression is almost always due to a chemical imbalance BUT i also think that peoples experinces in life are a large contributor to a persons mental state. If someone lives in a nurturing, loving, supportive enviorment then while they still have the chemical imbalance that causes depression, they are far more likely to be able to fight it and get better. On the other hand, if someone lives in an abusive, lonely, unloving enviorment, then they are far more likely to get worse and their negative behaviors will intensify.
As far as the anxiety that often goes along with depression. If someone is depressed, hates themselves and feels unworhty of any love or any thing good, then it is kind of natural that they would also get anxious frequently. This person is without self worht and propably thinks that everyone can see how awful a person they are (only in their mid) so they become anxious.

It's definitely legit. In many cases, it's a chemical imbalance, due to what's going on in your brain's chemistry, and it can also be inherited from family members (genetics). In some cases, depression is more "environmental," meaning that it can relate to what's going on in your life that can have a negative effect on your mood (such as loss of a loved one, problems at work, too much stress, family problems, money problems, etc.).

In either case, you should speak to a doctor (psychiatrist is best), to see if they recommend a medication for your condition. Sometimes, in cases of environmentally-based depression, you might be put on short-term anti-depressants until you get over the hump of feeling "blue"...then the doctor will take you off of them.

But yes, depression is definitely a very legit mood/chemical disorder.

In my case, it is not a depression over a situation. It is a depression that comes out of no where and all of a sudden I cry all of the time, feel hopeless and want to die. My mother asked me the other day "What are you depressed about" I told her I am not depressed about anything, it is just there and eventually it goes away (in my case, I am bipolar)

The illness really is thoughts and emotions you have no control over.

That depends on the cause of your depression. Is it due to psychical or emotional trauma? Is it because you lost a love one or job? Many things can cause depression including chemical imbalance in the body. You need to determine the root cause and either fix the psychical problem or process through the mental health issues. A good Dr & Therapist can help.

it is a legit illness. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain that therapy and medications can help to level out.

It's all related to mental health. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, anti-social behaviour & anxiety are bought on by pent up anger & irrational thoughts & not being able to verbally communicate them.

It's normal to feel depressed once in a while when something bad happens in your life. It becomes a problem when it lasts for months at a time, you quit eating, or start obsessing about suicide.

I'ts a real illness caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.

Anti Social personality disorder isn't commonly related to depression, however I think you may have meant Social Anxiety Disorder.

People with anxiety disorders are often afraid of many things, including being around people or even being outside which can cause depression. A combination of anti-anxiety medication and antidepressants can help.

Depression is a illness and it is legit. It is a chemically imbalence in your brain. And Anti social and anxiety can be related to depression but people who are depressed don't always suffer from Anti social disorder or anixiety but some people do. Depression is not your fault and if you feel depressed there is medication for it so you should talk to your doctor about it.

Depression is hard you feel tired, sad, think about sucide, some people don't eat. You feel bad about yourself but it isn't your fault so talk to your doctor and get help for it.

Good luck.

Anxiety and anti-social behaviour are linked to depression because it is caused a chemical imbalance of hormones in the brain. The concentration of the stress hormone cortisol is increased resulting in anxiety. Depression is a spiritual illness that is caused by trauma it manifests itself as a physical illness showing odd brain chemistry. People often do crazy, reckless and abusive things if they suffer from bad depression because they do not understand what they are doing is wrong. Many people who are egotists are repulsed by people who behave in an anti-social way and will condemn those who do, however some people understand that this behaviour is caused by deep seated problems. I have suffered from depression for two years and I believe it was caused by my ego and a lack of confidence. It was foolish of me to leave it for so long before getting myself sorted however I could never listen to what doctors or psychologists said because I never believed them and thought I was always right. This is what ego is and I only saw common sense whenever I seriously thought I was going to die.

THIS IS A VERY COMMON, BUT A SERIOUS MEDICAL PROBLEM, .....GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR TO DAY...THAT'S MY ADVISE TO THOSE WHO ARE DEPRESSED.

Depression stems from a chemical imbalance in the brain. When that is corrected, therapy can be effective in helping people figure out how they got where they ended up & what changes to their life are necessary to prevent a repeat episode...

It makes me feel better to know others including professionals tell me that I have a legitimate illness, however I'm convinced that it is all in my mind. Theres reasons why I try to avoid certain situations, & enjoy the comfort of a brand new cosy warm bed most days. But to know they actually have a name for this 'tranquility' is the icing on the cake.
