Friend with depression acting nasty?!

Question: One of my friends claims she is depressed and goes to therapist and everything. She, this other girl, and me are close friends. I also have these 2 good guy friends and I introduced everyone so sometimes we all hang out together.

Since her depression started, she began to act like an @$$ to both me and our other girl friend. She is never satisfied with anything, very unenthusiastic and rude. Her normal reply to ANYTHING is either "whatever", "idk", "yeah", or "no". And even if saying that, she always sounds annoyed and sarcastic. She never talks to neither of the two of us about anything, and we both feel upset/annoyed about her attitude, BECAUSE

When we hang out with the two guys I mentioned, she completely transforms, is nice, friendly, laughs at jokes etc., is in a much better mood... She does not have any other friends except us.

Is she just being a B to us? Or is there some reasonable explanation? I thought depression is not selective like this.

I would say that I have done the same thing. Because she is comfortable around you guys she feels that she can express how she is really feeling. But you need to confront her about this. Though she is depressed she still needs to respect your friendship and not take things out on you, and treat you poorly because she is miserable. Friends are not dormats. I would start doing things without her, call her less. Let her know you won't ALWAYS be there if she continues to act this way. Let her know you are there to listen and help in any way you can, but that you will not put up with the treatment you are receiving. I would talk to her one on one, she will get defensive and feel like she is being ganged up on if you both talk to her at the same time.

Ok...

Take some time to listen to her. I act just like her sometimes. I have lost friends because of this. If you reject her now while she is going through this, she will become even more depressed. Stay with her, dont leave her now because she needs you, even though she may act like she doesnt.

Just sit down and talk to her. I sounds like a personality disorder. Tell her she has a crappy attitude and you would like to know why. I have been fighting depression for years and I don't act like that. I have bipolar disorder and I get real happy or real sad, but with medication it is much better. I think that is what your friend needs. Some people just have to be told just how they are acting and that it bothers other people....like you!!!! So good luck, maybe she will listen to you. Maybe she is jealous of you or something. Do you think?

well you need to cut her some slack, when she is around you she doesnt feel like she needs to pretend to be happy because you know what is wrong with her, but when she is around them guys she feels like she needs to act as if nothings wrong so that they dont ask her questions and think anything is wrong with her, i am in the same situation and dont act happy around my bf but when im around other ppl i dont want them to now that anything is wrong so i put on an act, you need to sit and talk to her and try to understand, if shes getting help she is trying to fix but she needs you to be supportie, you are the closest friends she has, she needs you... dont be mean, be a good friend and be there
