What do these types therapist do?!

Question: I was looking for a therapist on my insurance's website and they had gender & sexuality therapist. Obviously I know what they deal with but would they be willing to let me talk through my depression as well as deal with my gender issues. I feel like I should be a man but I know my depression is partially fueled by this as well. I was going to speak to my psychiatrist about it today to see if she knew anyone who could help but chickened out, even though she figured out I had something to tell her, just couldn't do it.

Also I have a fear of talking on the phone and normally have my dad make the appointments for me would they tell him they are gender and sexuality therapist? Or should I just get over it and do it myself? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I've been told it's hard to find a therapist who works especially in gender dysphoria, issues. Most therapists would just try and treat the background issues, and "cure" you into accepting your born gender role.

You might want to call around yourself, check with local TS support groups and find someone who specializes in it, and see if you truly are gender dysphoric. Just as some therapists are too quick to dismiss people as being transgendered, some are too quick to label people that way.

Best of luck to you, I've talked to enough TS people in depression support rooms to know it's not easy for you however it goes for you.

Well even if your counselor doesnt deal with the depression you have Im sure she'll listen to you and help you because, well she cares about you and in some way shes like your best friend, and you should be able to trust her with anything. Good luck!!!!

Let me ask you a question. Are you looking to become comfortable with being a woman, or to consider sex-change therapy? I'm asking because...if you are looking to grow in your identity as a woman, I may be able to offer some websites.

If you can, I think the best thing you could do is to go back and talk to your psychiastrist. She will probably be able to talk to you about this and may even have a good referral to a gender-related professional for you to talk to.

The only therapy you need to know is you can STRAP horns ON a cow, but SHE will never be a BULL !!!
