Medical pro's? Do you think you have an answer for this weird Question?!

Question: I'd been on an anti-depressant (duloxetine) cymbalta for about 2yrs now...I didn't have ANY cash to pay for the script so I weened off the drug over a 10 day period- i was totally off of it for 5days and had side affects- nausea, heightened sense of smell and very tired and sad. I've been back on for 2days and it is sorta subsiding- coincidence or real??? Plz help!! PS- I'm not preggers!! =)

its real...cymbalta's withdrawal effects are much worse than the sickness youre using it to treat. anxiety attacks, depression, lethargy, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, jolting feelings in your chest, mood swings, dizziness/lightheadedness... its scary. it takes about two weeks back on the medicine for all the symptoms to go away.
its really scary going through all those symptoms especially when you dont know whats making everything go crazy. its totally normal for stuff like that to happen when you stop or even just slow down on cymbalta or any other SSRI or NSRI. not coiencidence at all.

Real! any sudden come off medication, especially anti-deppressants, have all those side affects and more! very real, and very scary!

i heard there really addictive i suggest u get off them for good and go to ur doctor and talk about it

In response to another answer, you have obiously already been to a dr to get the rx in the first place, Right? duh!

Anyway, yeah I am/was on Cymbalta and the 2nd day off is the worst, same symtoms until you get regulated on again.

Good luck, hang in there, I know it's tough!

But you know, contrary to popular belief, they make these meds for a reason. Obviously they do help! They did me, it just took a while to find the right one. And the side effects are better than the illness!

I am no medical pro (a med student tho!) but i really believe that anti depressants are a bad choice of medication. How can you expect a little concoction of chemicals cure whats hiding inside of you?? You are depressed because of something inside of you. The depression is living inside of you and taking this pill is only covering depression in a thick blanket but it still lives there. I dont know your personal position or anything but i would say from the bottom of my heart to cure the problem from the inside out. This is not just getting counselling which i am sure you have already explored but its using things like natural medicine to restore the body's balance. Why would you trust something that has such an effect on your body? To make you feel all those negative things, how can that be healthy? Now i am not a doctor or even a qualified naturopath but prehaps try a natural alternative and cure yourself from within. You dont have to stop this medication (and you shouldnt without a docs permission) but prehaps try using natural medicine too.

Since you abruptly stopped an SSRI (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor) you're experiencing the usual side effects of too sudden a withdrawal of the drug......Your brain was being flooded with serotonin, and thus the feelings you had....As the drug (remember, it took a while to even start working, some people get relief after 3 weeks, some people it has taken as long a 6 months) starts to cease the serotonin from being absorbed by the synaptic neurotransmitters in your cerebral cortex, you'll start feeling better......Just try and hang on for another couple weeks (I know, that's asking a lot, but it's going to take time for the medication to start working again) And re: the not being able to afford the meds, doesn't your state have medical support available to mothers?? I don't know where you are, but you might want to see if your social services offices in your are can assist you with getting your meds.....
