How can i sleep better? I get hyper when i get to bed.. but am tired otherwise..!

Question: Try to avoid active things near bed time such as exercising, eating large meals, playing violent video games, having an intense conversation etc. And try doing peaceful relaxing things instead - drink some warm, calming non-caffeinated tea, take a warm bath or shower, read a book in bed (particularly a boring school textbook will do the trick, haha).

Some say that going on the computer for a long period of time before bed will also interfere with sleep because the light from the monitor stimulates the eyes and brain so much. So try to avoid that.

Also make sure you're getting regular exercise and not taking naps during the day. Wear yourself out during the day so you have a reason to go to bed at night! Also regulating your waking/going to sleep times will help in the long run. If it gets to be a huge problem and you lay awake at night worrying about things intensely, talk to a doctor. It may be considered mild anxiety and you could be prescribed a gentle sleep aide.

This happens to teens and some adults. The best thing you can do is write whatever it is your thinking about in a journal while keeping a time check I.E. 20 minutes, then try again.

first have a look at your diet and what you do before you go to bed. sometimes having a shower before going to bed can wake you up again.
also, things like milk and tea dont make you sleep better, they do the opposite. as does coffee and chocolate obviously.

i like the answer about writing in a journal everything you think. either that or read something. it forces your eyes to get tired and then you have to sleep.

and lastly, if you go to bed with too much energy, try going for a long walk/run in the evening after dinner. it might tire you out enough that your physically tired enough to sleep.

this really depends on whether you are physically hyperactive at night time, or whether you think too much before sleeping that its hard to relax.

Dont drink caffiene after 6pm. 1 hour before our bedtime start winding down by turnng off the tv or listening to more soothing music. Shower before bed, have a comfortable matress and pillow and make your bedroom welcoming and comfortable for you. Dont have a tv in the bedroom, it does more harm than good.

Make sure your sheets are clean each week and when you put them back on ther bed, just before finishing making it up spritz little of your favorite fragrance under the pillows.

Keep a novel to read by your bed, and buy a bound empty journal book to write your toughts down in just before trying to sleep.

I have kept a journal for 44 years and they have come to my aid many times when i was anxious about something or worried. When you read back on them a week or month ot year later you will be surprised what you will learn about yourself and your habits.

Honestly, give it a try, it works. Clean, comfy, cozy in your fresh bed, with all your worries and concerns written down and out of your head for the night.

Good luck and sweet dreams. jackie

Hey well, you could try listening to some music on an ipod or something (that's what I usually do) or maybe watching a movie, maybe read a book or do something boring , but yer what that other person said, try and write in a journal or just write for the sake of it is a pretty good idea except when I write I start thinking and then I start thinking about something else and my mind starts wondering and before I know it 2 hours have passed and I'm more awake then I was when I started writing. Also if you said you get lots of energy as you go to bed maybe during the day or something you could just wear yourself out so you can't wait to get 2 bed. Good luck falling asleep.

i absolutey feel you.....sometimes i am sooooo flippin tired but my mind won.t flippin stop....usually i have to take something to calm me.....i almost feel like i shouldn.t sleep because im going to miss something or like its a waste of time........its just something that happens to some people......
