Hey, I've used omega 3 (as both flax seed and fish oil supplements) IN CONJUNCTION WITH my normal medication regime, not in place of and it seemed to help a bit.

I have bipolar 2 and experienced no adverse side effects such as mania - my shrink has never heard of this BTW. I asked him about the possibility when he first suggested I take fish oil O3 as part of my daily routine, so I'd hazard a guess to say its really very rare because it is still being used in the treatment for clinical depression and other mood disorders.

It is being used on its own to treat low level depressions much in the same as St. John's Wart does but with better results, don't take St Johns wart while on mood stabilisers or antidepressants because it can interfere with your medication, cause adverse reactions or reduce drug efficacy. Its safer than most other supplements when used complementary to other conventional drug therapies.

So assuming you are not allergic to sea food or flax seed, it should be okay to use with your meds, but definitely check with your docs first and only take it according to their directions.

I've heard that omega 3's may help with moods (perhaps more of the depression side), however, it's Not supposed to be in place of an actual mood stabilizer that one gets a 'script for from their doctor :) Perhaps one can talk it over with their psychiatrist.

Omega 3 is good for many things, and I take all my omegas so I feel better but I also take my amino acids and greens.

Yes I've tried it. Oh dear god, it made me manic. I really had an adverse reaction. A really bad one.

na its didnt help me with the actual moods but it did i think a bit with depression...i still kept on with all meds mood stabilisers included but i guess its worth a try but not as a replacement of the prescription.
