i don't know about the formal definition of ADHD ADD, but I've known people to get involved in really intense conversations and like halfway through have no idea what they are listening to. I myself have been known to actually start a conversation and ramble so off topic that I don't even know what im talking about anymore. Or I'll start talking about something and I'll notice some movement or whatever, and I'll start talking about that and not remember what I was talking about and if Im reminded, then I don't even know why I was talking about it in the first place.

I guess it could be measured not exactly in seconds or minutes, but maybe it has to do with the average person's ability to "stay focused" according to the length of the conversation, interest in a particular conversation and the average person's ability to "stay on topic" as opposed to one who might be suspected to have adhd add, like me I guess. Maybe

uhhh...what the question again.

sorry...couldn't resist.

This is a great question, but a very tough one to clearly answer. I wouldn't focus so much on seconds or minutes, as much as I would think about how does your attention or level of being distracted affect your ability to complete tasks, follow conversations, and follow instructions?

Think more along those lines. A short attention span could mean a lot of different things, and not just ADHD. So if you are concerned about paying attention - I would first ask you what you are distracted by? When does it happen?

Another thought I have is related to whether you are distracted by certain things? Or is your short attention span like someone constantly using a remote to change the channels on TV?

I'd love to help more, so check my profile to contact me or check out my blog (related to ADHD).
