What should i if i am always depressed.?!

Question: I don't know how it started but I eventually got really depressed. I am 16 and in high school and my grades have been dropping since the eigth grade. It all started about the eigth grade. From then on I just got more and more depressed. I get depressed around school, and at home more often. I am really happy when i with my friends though. In stages I get suicidal thoughts, some times a lot in a week sometimes none. I have attempted suicide before too. I started drinking and that has helped me but I don't want to get addicted. I am confused on what i should do.

I think you should talk to an adult, either your parents or someone else you trust. Most schools have a school psychologist and you could ask your school counselor if you can see that person; they are qualified to assess whether you need medical help or not. Depression is a physical illness (it involves chemical deficiencies in the brain) and can be treated with medication; you may just need to go on medication.

There are also situational factors--for instance, if you recently had a series of stressful events happen (e.g., loss of a loved one, parents divorce, etc.), that could trigger a major depression (that is, it could trigger your brain to become deficient in seratonin, which is partially responsible for making you feel depressed.

Either way, it makes the most sense to get assessed and treated--assessment means they'll ask you a few questions and have you fill out a basic Q & A with questions about how you feel and how long you've felt that way. If you are depressed, they may prescribe medication or counseling or both. Hopefully they can get you back on track.

Good luck; I hope this helps.

Talk to a doctor and they might give you therapy or some medicine.

talk to your councelor

work out!!! run !! get a boost of adrenaline.. do yoga.. go into religion as in be inspired by it.. surround yourself with love. .help others less fortunate like cmon look at all those ppl in the world starving.. or on a less extreme note ppl who are blind,, are dying etc etc.. by helping and devoting time to charity u can realize how great situation u are in..
o yea and it doesnt hurt to eat chocolate

KEEP URSELF BUSY THATS THE BOTTOME LINE :D

You should stop drinking and tell your family or some1 you trust and care about how you feel. Then get professional help.

u need to cosult a trusting parent:)i hope this works for you.

maybe you should go see a doctor

There's an advertisment on this screen right now for depression. It says to go to drepressionisreal.org

talk to someone, whether its a counsellor, family, or a good friend, just talk to someone you trust. figure out if there is anything that might hav triggered this, and if so try to come up with a solution. if you're feeling like there's no point, maybe try doing new activities, like take up playing music or sports with your friends, you said they make you happy.

anyway hope i helped!
cheers, andrea.

right in your journal (or diary). That calms me down when i'm depressed.

Drinking will not help you at all. Seek help.. seek several doctors but do some re search on all the medication out there. There are natural ways to balance your depression states that come and go. I would be very careful about any prescription medicine from any doctor. Do your own reading and change your eating habits, the way you live right now. At 16 you are going through many things. Do not even think of suicide, that is no way out. You would hurt many folks including friends and family. Everyone goes through some sort of depression in their life... write down your thoughts and keep a notebook. God bless you.

First talk to you mom or dad.
They'll take you to a doctor and see if there is anything medically
wrong with you.
If there's not, they can still get you medicine to make you feel better or to see a therapist.

Talk someone you love...Life is beautiful and it def gets better as you grow older. Good luck sweetie!

Get over it. Go visit a burn center, or the ICU wing at a hospital. Watch the news and look at how bad other people in the world have it and you won't be so depressed. You have a home, family, friends, food, a computer (apparently), and you probably have money. There are people out there that kill thier family pet just to feed thier children. You make me sick. You are nothing but selfish to sit there and complain about how bad your life is when it really isn't at all. In fact it is probably better than most. Get over it, grow up, face the music. Alcohol has never solved anything.

I think that the real way to solve depression doesn't come from any pills that the doctor could give you, and maybe not even from anything that anyone could say to you. It comes from you. I think all it takes is relizing what a huge effect you have on all the people around you. There are probablly so many people that look up to you, and you have no idea. You have to relieze that so many people are living in the tuffest of times and surrcumstances and are finding a way to find happiness in their lives none the less. Eventhough sometimes we all get caught up in self pity you have to relize there are so many people that really love and care for you and that you could make the choice to have a positive impack on the world. I would suggest that you take a little bit of time everyday to think about the things you should be thankful to have( your friends, family exc..) If you spend more time thinking those things that make you happier, you will be happier. Hey, and really as dumb as this sounds from that answer you gave me a couple minutes ago about that kid...I thought you were a great guy.. as I'm sure lots of other people would agree.
