Restlessness?!

Question: During the last 13 or so months I have lost 130 pounds going from 275 pounds to 145. I did it with lots of excersise and almost fanatical dieting (I eat no sugar or white flour anymore). I am now at my goal weight. I work to learn maintaince and am slowly learning how to maintain but my question is more about my mental state. I now suffer from a kind of severe restlessness that is worse at night. I find myself walking from one end of the house to the other just looking out of the windows. For what I have no idea, I just feel so very restless. I feel as if I am missing something but have no idea what. My soul mate asks me what I need and I am at a loss. I have no way to really explain my feelings to him. What is happening here?

g'mornin' PC,

I like what that other person said about seeing a nutritionist or doctor about a possible metabolic imbalance causing the restlessness. We do need some carbs. With the comparatively small (37 lbs.) amount of weight I lost, I would also tend to get restless, and that was always when I was low on carbs, or just plain hungry . When I eat complex carbs, like wild rice, I feel much better. Also, I find that drinking green tea helps calm me down.

If it isn't diet related,, do you think it might be something going on with you that your soul, not your body, is seeking? Like fulfilling a need within yourself that is now knocking on your door in your head? Travel maybe? You are such a generous and compassionate care giver my friend, and I bet you put your needs last. Could it be that some need of yours wants to be heard?

Listen, see what that voice tells you. You are a good strong sensitive lady, you are in touch with that voice.

It is possible that you are having trouble with anxiety. Do you feel uptight, maybe tight in the chest? It may also be that you have boosted your metabolism so much that you are having a hard time winding down. Are you using a lot of caffeine? Are you eating enough fruits and veggies and meats? Maybe a multivitamin would help. I would certainly talk to your doctor to make sure your diet isn't creating an imbalance. You don't want to overdo it. Congrats on the weight loss by the way, just make sure you stay healthy on don't obsess with being thin. Good luck and God bless.

OMG That is wonderful! I think you are so strong willed. That's a lot of weight to lose. I need to tell you about the restlessness ...
I have that feeling... . I think it might be because I am so addicted to food. Yes, that's what I truly believe. .I used to eat everything in sight and I have really bad reflux disease. It's better when I'm not gorging myself. You may want to go to a doctor and check to see if there is a mild medication that will get you through the hard times. It is such an uncomfortable feeling.
I will always be a food addict..It's my drug of choice and I'll always have a hard time with it. Food is SO available.

I'm restless and doing the same wierd things that you are. I don't have any idea why I'm doing it either. Not dieting, though, I need to.

Probably some kind of imbalance from not enough carb consumption.

The body needs carbs for energy - otherwise it begins to burn fat stores to an extreme, releasing dangerous ketones into the blood - a condition called ketosis, similar to diabetic ketoacidosis. Irritability and difficulty sleeping are signs of early ketosis.

You should seek medical advice and have a workup. Then visit a nutritionist to help you come up with a safer weight maintenance plan. You might be causing yourself a great deal of physical harm.

Ms Crone. You set a weight goal for yourself but failed to set an emotional goal as well. Now that you've reached your weight goal you're feeling as though you haven't reached your emotional goal. In other words, you never planned out what to do after you reached your goal. the smart thing to do would be to set another goal for yourself, right away and work towards that, only this time make that goal merely a step to some further, perhaps unattainable goal. That way you'll always have that feeling that you're working your way to someplace in your life. Life is NOT about the goals, it's about the journey to GET there.

Brightest Blessings,

Good going. Sounds wonderful except for the restlessness. Have you tracked you blood sugars over the course of the day? Let us know if you find out anything about the restlessness, cause it sounds awfully familiar... I accept emails. Congratulations.
